NFL: Broncos vs. Vikings...on FOX???

That's right, and here's why...

From the Times Union:

Fox changes early NFL game to Broncos-Vikings

Fox has pulled an 11th-hour switch for Week 13 of the NFL season and given most affiliates in the country the Denver at Minnesota game, a telecast originally assigned to CBS.

Interestingly, the visiting team generally determined which network has the right to the game, and CBS, as the American Conference rightsholder, originally had this on its schedule. When NBC gave the scheduled Sunday night Indianapolis at New England game back to CBS and took the Detroit at New Orleans telecast from Fox, the NFL stepped in and assigned Denver-Minnesota back to Fox, which would have had only two 1 p.m. choices otherwise.

The NFL needs to reconsider the flex schedule option the next time they are renegotiating the television contracts.

This is not unprecedented, although the last time this happened was 39 years ago.

Back in those days, NBC (then the AFC network) would face an annual dilemma when the baseball postseason occurred. For a couple of Sundays each year in the early-mid 1970's, NBC would have to sell off its AFC lineup to mostly local stations if they conflicted with the World Series. As an example, a 1970 game featuring Buffalo at Pittsburgh was to have have been televised by NBC. But since NBC had to televise the World Series, NBC sold this game off to WBEN (now WIVB) in Buffalo for telecast. On two occasions, in 1971 and 1972, both games involving the Jets playing the Patriots in Foxboro, NBC sold the games to CBS (which was the NFC channel) for regional telecasts.

So, if I'm reading this right the NFL moved Indy at NE to an afternoon game and moved Detroit/NO to the night time?

Makes sense from a win/loss standpoint - who on Sunday night wanted to see Indy get pummeled again (although they actually only lost by a touchdown this week) when they could see - um - Detroit get pummeled by New Orleans?

Seriously, it wasn't even that close a game, despite the scoreboard. And all the stupid penalties Detroit racked up should have made it more of a blowout.

But there's no crystal ball in the NFL. And frankly there have been Sundays where every game literally sucked. Shoulda moved Denver/Minnesota or GB/NYG to Sunday night.

agreed with both, the problem is the NFL sees the matchups and they look awful on paper but when they actually play the games...

Interesting one coming up in a couple weeks: Denver/new England is a 4:15 CBS game, NBC would probably like that one on Sunday night, it's better than Baltimore/San Diego currently scheduled.

And ESPN's Monday Night Football slate is even worse!

Yeah, really... ;)

Ah, the greed of the Purple means the Favre curse is on! Tavarious Jackson, gone...Donovan McNabb, cut..Christian Ponder, running for his life.

Suck on it Viking fans. This is your punishment for hopping in bed with a revenge minded mississippian.

The more Viking fans that saw the Broncos kick your behind, the better.
