NFL Double header? Try double decker!

A double header is when a network (CBS or FOX) is lucky enough to give its affiliate two games on one Sunday.

But CBS Los Angeles is doing better than that by showing two games at the same time. KCBS is running Chargers @ Vikings while KCAL is showing Bears @ Giants. Both games started at 5PM PDT.

So it is possible for an O&O non affiliate to run network programming eh? Has any other city done this? Philly: has 57 shown a CBS NFL game?

Just checked and the following are getting upper deck (Bears/Giants) goodness.

San Diego, CA (will air on MeTV 8.2)
Miami, FL (will air on My-33)
Topeka, KS (will air on My-TV)
Boston, MA (will air on TV-38)
Kansas City, MO (will air on KSMO 62)
Columbus, OH (will air on WBNS weather channel)
Dayton, OH (will air on WHIO weather channel)
Tulsa, OK (will air on CW-12)

Gotta get back to double HD goodness.  ;D

This is just preseason, though....no?

I'd like to see regular season doubledeckers....

cd

I imagine it would have been the same in Tampa Bay on WTSP, if the Bucs / Patriots game wasn't blacked out, with the CBS game moving to a subchannel or another station, but instead, WTSP will show the CBS game live and the Bucs on a delay after the 11PM news.

pre-season is different. Few examples where 2 games going on at once in same market

These markets will not have Chicago/NYG on the main station
Los Angeles, CA (will air on KCAL 9)
San Diego, CA (will air on MeTV 8.2)
Miami, FL (will air on My-33)
Topeka, KS (will air on My-TV)
Boston, MA (will air on TV-38)
Kansas City, MO (will air on KSMO 62)
Columbus, OH (will air on WBNS weather channel)
Dayton, OH (will air on WHIO weather channel)
Tulsa, OK (will air on CW-12)

This has been common for years in the preseason. Usually you see other prime time shows shifted for locally produced games. In this case you're seeing a nationally produced game shifted for a locally produced one.

I was surprised to see an all-NFC matchup on CBS...

Preseason rules are different. The AFC visitor games on CBS (example Miami at Seattle) is during the regular season. Also, the NFL won't allow two games from the same network at the same time during the season due to NFL Sunday Ticket on DirecTV. A great example will be week 2 here in Hartford/New Haven:

SUN 1 PM FOX: Arizona @ New England AND Tampa @ New York Giants

My gut says WTIC-TV (FOX) channel 61 of Hartford will air the Giants game, since they're the champions and that WTIC-TV airs the G-Men far more often. A FOX Sports exception was allowed a few weeks ago with baseball. WTIC-TV aired the game with the Yankees, while WCCT-TV (CW) channel 20 of Waterbury/Hartford carried the Red Sox game. So strange to see a FOX show on WCCT-TV! (Besides CW, they were WB until 2006 and UPN from 1996-2000.)

As for preseason football, the Patriots vs Buccaneers game was aired here by WTNH-TV (ABC) channel 8 of New Haven. Normally, that would've been carried by their sister station, WCTX-TV (MY) channel 59 of New Haven. It was moved to WTNH since WCTX was airing the Yankees vs Indians game from WWOR-TV.

And for what its worth, last night KTVT ran the local Cowboys preseason game and shifted the CBS game with the texans to co-owned KTXA. Again, a very common practice in the preseason. This does not happen in the regular season.

The only time ch 57 in Philly shows an NFL game is when it is preempted on ch 3. Last preseason we had a hurricane passing through. Channel 3 had news on. The CBS game which was Patriots was on 57 (lots of times in a small screen with NWS warnings from channel 3).
