how long have the networks been switching to the ends of other nfl games? i think it dates back to the 70s?

Yes. It was called "normalizing" the network. CBS, for instance," would have all of the regional games toss to the longest-running game, then roll 60 minutes at the same time for the entire Eastern & Central time zones.

I know we had a long thread about this recently, but I can't find it.

nbc did the same thing with disney punky brewster and our house? later on nbc would simply go to bob costas or greg gumbel to fill till 8

I don't know all of the specifics on NBC. But I know by the late 80s, NBC would sometimes have staggered start times for prime time shows.

one expction: 1988 Chiefs Jets because of the Closing Ceremony of the 1988 Summer Olympics

how could NBC have staggered start times for prime time shows when they were covering 6 or 7 regional games?

was thinking week 2 of 88 when nbc had six regional games late and rags to riches at 7

in 1989 i remember that nbc joined a seahawks chargers game with five minutes remaining because Broncos-Colts telecast ended early remembered switching back and forth between the Chargers-Seahawks game and "Life Goes On" which was on ABC?

how many prime time feeds was NBC able to do during NFL season for runovers

colts broncos lasted 2:34 seahawks chargers lasted 3:10 so there were more than five minutes reaming when nbc switched

i remember nbc delaying a family movie one time for a game i think it was between the broncos and the patriots in 1991 the game ran all the way to the end of overtime the movie was shown in full though wich meant a midnight start for the local news game was in old Sullivan Stadium

i wonder if a nfl game as affected the emmy awards? was thinking of 1989 bills dolphins or 2003 giants redskins or bills jets in 2013
