NFL games on digital subchannels?

Sorry if this has already been brought up before...

During March Madness, KPHO-Phoenix (and I would imagine other CBS affiliates) uses its digital subchannels to carry multiple games at the same time.

Has there ever been any thought into doing this with NFL games? What would be the reasons that the NFL would not allow it?

No, it means the NFL wouldn't get as much money by letting affiliates put out of market games on their digital subcarriers. Unless, of course, they upped the rights fees they got from the networks. And since they are already paying through the nose to broadcast these games, it's not bloody likely.

I think it's a brilliant idea. However, you need to follow the trail of money to figure out why it's not being done.

In fact, the trend is in the opposite direction (see rant on NFL Network...).

But, it IS a great idea. Which probably ensures that it will not happen.
