NFL Network preview

Cablevision customers this week are seeing a free preview of the NFL Network (channel 150 for those who wish to pay for it as part of an upper package) on channel 20, the former WCCT spot and channel 11 (WPIX) given Tribune and Cableivision's carriage fee problem will go on for a while (like FOREVER!).

This will seem very ironic given how PIX (which is unwatchable now that they now air the MAURY SHOW THREE TIMES A DAY[Checking Zap2it], not to mention it's a CW[Crappy Watching] station...but that's another story) that this Thursday, the New York Football Giants visit The Carolina Panthers. Past PIX airings of football have been from NFL Network. Before that, PIX would carry ESPN telecasts.

PIX has been carrying the "G" Men in some capacity for a long time as seen in this 1976 pre-season promo...back when the station was not only watchable, but just before the start of their popular "11 Alive" campaign.

So I guess after all these years Cablevision won the battle. Wasn't their argument that they didn't want to offer NFLN on a basic tier? Looks like they were allowed to put it on a more expensive sports tier.

Indeed, WPIX is the local NFL Network affiliate when the Giants or Jets play a game on Thursday night. Likewise, WWOR simulcasts ESPN Monday night games involving local teams.

From what I read, the free preview was for this past Sunday only. So days after they'll be getting NFLN on WPIX's old channel position, they'll need to pay for NFLN in order to get the Thursday night Giants game that would have otherwise been airing for free over WPIX. Nice negotiation ploy.

What is with the goof-ball with the garish blue suit, with the weird looking beard who does the ads for the NFL network? Who thought that was a good idea?
