NFL Playoffs on WIP

I can't exactly tell from the website, but it looks like WIP AM and FM will both carry the 76ers and Raptors instead of the late (8 p.m.) NFL game on Saturday, and the Flyers and Senators instead of the late (4 p.m.) NFL game on Sunday.

Any reason why they wouldn't put the local play by play on 94 and the national NFL coverage on 610? And if they are doing that, any reason why the website wouldn't say so?

(Also, the above URL still refers to the station as "610wip").

Lions vs. Saints, Saturday night.

Glen: "That's a good game."

Anthony: "That's a really great game."

One that won't be on your air, apparently... :p

It doesn't make any sense to air the Sixers and Flyers games on both AM and FM at the same time. That's why some SJU hawks games didn't air on WIP and aired on WPHT instead, because of that. I don't know WTF is CBS radio doing. They are not using WIP-AM correctly, in terms of airing separate play by play programming like college basketball, NFL, etc, while the Flyers/Sixers and or Eagles are playing at the same time.

Info from Jeff Sottolano, Program Director of Sportsradio 94WIP. This weekend's schedule for NFL Playoff games is as follows:
Saturday @ 4:30 - Cincinnati at Houston - heard on 94WIP
Saturday @ 8:00 - Detroit at New Orleans - heard on 610WIP (because of Sixers
conflict)
Sunday @ 1:00 - Atlanta at NY Giants - heard on 94WIP
Sunday @ 4:30 - Pittsburgh at Denver - heard on 610WIP (because of Flyers
conflict)

We are working on a format and placement for a 610WIP schedule on cbsphilly.com.

Good to see them putting the two signals to good use, and glad I'll be able to listen to the games from the car.

CBSNewYork has separate links for what's on WFAN and what's on the WFAN web stream. Those are links off the main page for WFAN. CBS might consider doing the same thing in Philly: separate schedule pages for 94, 610, and the web stream.

Meanwhile, tonight CBS Philly had a four-game pileup with the NFL, Flyers, Sixers and Temple all on at 7 or 8. They let the late NFL game go to 97.5.

And don't forget Saint Joe's.

Why couldn't they just put the late NFL game on WOGL? They put Giants preseason games on WCBS FM in New York for 3 years in a row when they had a 3 game conflict with the Yankees, Mets, and Giants. You would think an NFL playoff game, even though it doesn't involve the Eagles, is more important than a meaningless preseason game.

Nothing in there was pre-season. But that aside, maybe the value of a non-Eagles game didn't rise to the level of using WOGL in this case.

CBS was probably under contract requiring it to air all Giants games no matter what. It apparently doesn't have that kind of contract with WW1/Dial Global for the national NFL package.

And you'd be surprised how local-centric fans are. A preseason game involving the local team may well get better ratings than a playoff game involving a team in Boston and a team in Denver.

Especially on the radio. People who are home will pop an NFL playoff game on the TV, but people who are out and about might not listen to it on the radio like they would with a game (even a preseason game) involving a team they follow week to week.

Because of the paid for Bob Pantano Dance Party. That show doesn't get bumped for anything.

Just curious as to the lexicon of how they steer the listeners to AM or FM. Is 610WIP and 94WIP the standard?

On WFAN NYC a few days ago, their 20-20 sports would promo a later game as being on 'AM eleven three oh', or 'on AM 970'.

Neither WBBR nor WNYM are CBS properties. You'd figure that the plug for the overload games would be better all around if the exchange were more reciprocal. None of the CBS radio stations in NYC are really in any realm of competition with WBBR or WNYM, in programming or signal. But it sounds as though WFAN is reluctant to go any farther than the minimum.

'Yeah, the Nets will be on that staticky thing that New Jersey fans can't hear in most of Jersey anyway', might be more valid.

Dial Global / WW1 apparently has radio coverage of the Super Bowl starting at 3 p.m. and ending at midnight. 94.1 will start carrying it after the Flyers and Rangers (who start at 1) are done, and stop carrying it when the game ends.

610 will carry the coverage as well, but they won't be carrying the Flyers. They'll be carrying a St. Joe's game that starts at 2:30. And they'll keep carrying the WW1 NFL coverage (which is apparently called "NFL Insider") through midnight, while 94 will go local soon after the game ends.

This is me interpreting the web site which is hard to follow. Looks like CBS Radio has a Time Machine:
For 610:
2/5/12
3:00PM – 10:00PM SUPER BOWL XLVI
2:00PM – 4:30PM St. Joe`s vs LaSalle
10:30PM – 12:00AM NFL Insider
