NFL To FCC: Don't Tinker With Our Blackout Rule

Think that's strange? I remember years ago when Fort Myers' CBS affiliate WINK TV almost had a Dolphins postseason game blacked out in the market because the game was not sold out. Why? Because WINK TV's analog signal could be picked up in the eastern portion of Collier County...which was within the 75-mile radius of the stadium. The eastern portion of Collier County is swampland!

In what ways? I turned 20 a couple of weeks after MLB returned from the 1981 strike and if I noticed any "readjustment" back then, I've long since forgot.

How Many teams in the NFL pushes the Blackout Rule besides the Raiders? I think Al Davis is the big guys telling the FCC not to tinker with this rule.

I was about 23 then...people who really, really liked baseball got all worked up and angry.
If there was readjustement, it was to seeing such things as sports as a little less important and relevant, if they were willing to
price themselves out of even having a "season".

I didn't care more or less after, but saw an attitude change in others.
A lot of people turned their "fan" "dial setting" down a notch.
 
All I know is, if Detroit's first Monday night game in years is blacked out locally (local simulcast of ESPN), there won't be a lot of happy people in the Motor City!
