It has been a few years, but I had attended a number of NHAB events. Like the MAB here in the Pine Tree state, broadcaster associations were so much fun to attend. There were always lots of great and sometimes boring seminars to attend. Partying was encouraged. The events gave you a chance to let your hair down and enjoy the company of nut-jobs like yourself. It was always a hoot to see who won whatever category during the awards portion of the evening. We celebrated us. But there has been a marked change in the events since the introduction of large media companies. Like air out a balloon, the fun of "out-doing" the competition has deflated; primarily because your competition is now a part of your media group. As you all know, media companies have streamlined and downsized, which means that there are fewer broadcasters to take part in such events, and those that would like to attend have to pay their own way. I worked for a group that wouldn't even pay the $10 entry fee to enter your best commercial in the competition.
