NHABS

NH Abs? I have some that look quite impressive.

i don't know if shocking is quite the word.

first, here is the breakdown of the radio awards:

wtsn: 6
wbyy: 4
wgir: 4
wasr: 3
wgam: 3
wmwv/wvmj: 3
wkxl: 3
wokq: 3
wsmn: 2
wfnq: 2
wyry: 1
wzid: 1
wbnc: 1

some thoughts:

if you take clear channel out of the loop, big corporate radio in new hampshire is an embarassment, if awards say anything. look at how few the big boys have. they didn't even throw a few ad bones to the big fms like they do every year. nassau is looking pretty slim on there. what, just 1?

wgir still remains the state's news leader. that "60 minutes with the mayor" show wins every year - not matter who the mayor is.

wbyy/wtsn continue to win a ton of awards for both programming and public service. does anyone know if they are a good outfit to work for? i bet they don't have a lot of turn over in employees. does anyone know what the ratings are for wtsn? radioandrecords.com doesn't have public numbers from the seacoast.

then, there is wkxl. wasn't it last year or the year before when they won six or seven awards? this year, down to 3 for news. no programming or sports awards. the station has gone through almost 40 employees in less than 3 years. the latest is some kid they hired to do the local health show, was shown the door after a few months. as we have all said before, what a sad situation.

WKXL won six Golden Mike Awards in 2005, the most of any station that year, and three in 2006. Winning three in 2007 isn't that bad.

Matthew Marcil, "the kid" who was doing "Your Health Matters," was told he wouldn't be hosting the show there but is being kept on in other part-time roles. He told me he was happy with that decision so, good for him for being able to do what makes him happy. He's a good kid.

Having said that, the new host of the show will be the fifth in less than three years and the station has gone through more than 30 employees in less than three years.

Not to nitpick, but WVMJ/WMWV took 4 awards... merit award for station of the year... Visitor Info Radio.
WBNC-AM is part of the cluster.

Which makes me ask... What does the Station of the Year award look like? I ask because the merit award for station/year is MASSIVE.

hmm lets see ---- the two people that won awards at KXL are now at GIR.... and possibly some stations are too busy with the on air product and promotions to even enter awards....maybe the reason the so called big guys did not win is they did not enter....

what are you talking about? the three people who won awards this year still work at the station. i think you are giving the big boys too much credit. the nhab awards and dinner are a big deal. that's why nassau reserves five or six tables every year, so the team can blow off steam. i seriously doubt they did not enter.

Thanks for the link to the winner list, granitestate Looks like they have tinkered with the categories since last year. I like how they split it between on air talent and morning shows(team).

trust me - they did not enter - why do you think there was less than a table for "the big guys" and senior management not there

i noticed the change too. i don't know how i feel about it. in some ways, it is good to mix things up a bit. in other ways, it isn't. how do you compare to previous years if you keep changing it?

they must have entered because they did win some awards. they just didn't win as many as previous years.

At WKXL, Frank Alosa won two awards and Chris Ryan won one award. Both are still working there.
