NHL Network, what on earth are they doing?

In the 3+ yrs. that I've had access to the NHL Network here in the states, their program
schedule just seems to go from bad to worse to worse.

They used to fill their off-hours, as well as the entire off season, with an interesting collection of
classic games and historical programs about people like Toe Blake, Jean Beliveau and Eddie Shore.
All of which I found very interesting.

Now during the season, whenever they are not showing an actual live game, it seems as if
the entire schedule is NHL On The Fly wall-to-wall, 24x7. And the offseason now appears
to be nothing more than a looped repeat of about a dozen games from last spring's Stanley
Cup playoffs.

Does the NHL even care about this channel anymore or is it just there for convenience sake whenever
Gary Bettman wants to hold a press conference or something?

All I wanted was the pre game show, both ends of the Hockey Night In Canada double header and After Hours. This season they dumped the late game and after hours, bumping them to Sunday afternoon, opposite NFL Football.

Theres not much going on in the league right now. Hopefully the NBA will wither and die on the vine so the NHL will get a better audience this season.

I'm guessing the late game and After Hours Show was dumped due to the lack of viewers in the West. Most east-coasters don't stay up late on a workday night. Those of us living in the West would love to see East Coast teams other than Detroit.

As for the competition between the NHL and NBA.....moot. I don't see but an infinitesimal number of fans who follow both leagues. If the NBA went away entirely there is still a huge college game to follow if you are a basketbrawl fan.

I am unfortunate to live in a Southwestern city with a team that is constantly rumored to be moving. The only press we get are the rumors and the sad financial condition of the team. No other media attention at all. Neither the team nor the league seems to want to bother with more media exposure. Sad.
