Any opinions on OLN's coverage of the National Hockey League so far this season?

I know they had some bugs to work out, but it appears things are getting better. They built a new set for the commentators (Bill Clement, Keith Jones, Neil Smith) and the production quality seems more crisp than in October.

I also enjoy the interviews during the game and intermissions.

One thing they will need is a top grade personality that will attract more viewers in the same way Howard Cosell (love him or hate him) boosted coverage of Monday Night Football. I think OLN would be wise next year (or during the playoffs) to hire someone outspoken such as Brett Hull or Jeremy Roenick.

How about former Boston Bruins' coach Don "Grapes" Cherry??

Yes, he does between-periods work with Ron MacLean on "Hockey Night In Canada", but perhaps OLN (and NBC) could work around that. During the regular-season, "Grapes" can do a bit for either OLN on Monday nights or NBC on Saturday afternoons (CBC's games are Saturday nights). On weekend playoff games, which would be seen on both CBC and NBC, the latter could simulcast Cherry's "Coach's Corner" segment.

Maybe they are not as good as the quailty offered bythe regional FSN affiliates, but they are certinaly better than the production quality offered by Altitude here in Colorado. This station which is owned by the owner of the Nuggets and Av's is very podunck. if you ever get the chance to watch some of their shows if you get this channel on dish its pretty funny. The Sports Summitt is REALLY bad. But the sad part is that it is about 100% better than when they launched in 2004. With a show called "The Vista," which was a bunch of players wives sitting around in someones basement talking about sports.

I'd be nice but I don't see Grapes invading the statesiders either way, and certainly NOT on Saturday if it's not on the CBC. Besides, who could they get to play the part of "Ron MacLean"?

OK, maybe Costas.
 
Isn't Bob Costas going to serve as intermission host of NBC's coverage of the NHL anyway???
 
The CBC will NEVER let Don Cherry open his yap on any other network on this planet. The Yank announcers would bait him and Grapes would end up taking a question on the new rules and end up calling for the nuking of Afghanistan...(One of the CBC's problems with Charry was for his unabashed support of the US after 9/11)

Mind you, I like the guy. Hes Hockey personifed. Don't always agree with him, but he makes the between periods time entertaining and informative.
