NH's Hit Music Station - 87.9 the beat

I heard this pirate in tyngsboro at the end of August and they had a moderate signal throughout the town with RDS. Started a thread and everything about it on the Boston board. Then they fell off the face of the earth and I figured they were just a fly by night pirate and forgot all about them. On September 22nd I heard them in a parking lot in Billericca. I haven't really checked 87.9 much since then, so I'm guessing they're still on -- when the people feel like throwing it on ::) Keep it on 24-7 I could use some new choices :)

I've always wondered... what's the point? Sign on a low-powered station that no one can hear. Turn on the transmitter now and then, so you'll never have an audience anyway. Then have the FCC knock on your door and levy a hefty fine on you.

I can think of better ways to spend $10,000.

Exactly! Many people just do pirate radio for the fun and as a hobby, however this pirate is trying to look like a legitimate operation online. ;D Who knows, maybe they're just getting started and plan to broadcast on a regular basis soon.

I don't get why these pirate broadcasters just don't make internet radio stations. So much cheaper and no FCC to worry about. Put it on itunes radio or a directory and you'll have a decent audience. That's what I've been doing for 3 years.

I suppose it wouldn't matter if they broadcast intermittently if their sole purpose was to divert audience to the internet stream... if there is a consistent one of those.

They seem to be on fulltime now. They were on over the weekend and have been on all week so far. They are running the Steve Harvey morning show. It sounds like they are using the actual satellite/raw feed. The commercial breaks are all PSAs and you hear extended network bumper music. I say all of that because they could very well rip a feed from another station and rebroadcast but it doesn't sound like they are doing that. They even have personalized IDs.

Steve Harvey? What a horrible fit. They are most likely relaying iHeartRadio's Hip-Hop station called "The Beat" which airs Steve Harvey in the mornings. I'm pretty sure they are, cuz I've heard them air drops that are used on iHeartRadio's '"The Beat" before.

I'm listening to them right now, they're playing T.I.'s "Pledge Alleigance to the Swag".

Guys, I'm guessing he copied and pasted that off the website. I bet you theres no such thing as a Media 57, LLC. Most likely their stick is mounted on the roof or side of a house, and people will confuse it for old rabbit ears or an old analog TV reciever so there won't be anything to worry about. These creeps who think they can hack the dial and outsmart the legitimate broadcasters annoy me, because the legitimate broadcasters pay big bucks for their licenses and have to do alot to avoid fines. I don't buy the whole "were filling in a format gap/were serving the underserved" excuse to justify hacking the airwaves. I understand you want to fill a format gap, that's why you make an internet radio station! & I live a town under Nashua and didn't hear anything on 87.9 today ;)
