nice dx from philly tonight

I was listening to philly stations clear as a bell tonight on my portable walkman here in southwestern ct. (nyc metro area) I was amazed to be able to pick up wysp 94.1 and wmmr 93.3 clearly! just one of the few I tried these are the ones I noticed because I love rock music. I think its a 1st for me in my life to get both clearly on a portable walkman! I wish I could get wccc 106.9 instead oh well. what have you guys been picking up?

It's been some real interesting tropo recently, especially the last couple of nights.

I heard "B104" on 104.1 tonight up in Westfield mixing with WBCN and WPHH.
I don't know off the top of my head where B104 is...

Also some good NYC stuff (CBS-FM... er. Jack)

Yeah, in RI yesterday I was picking up Magic 95.7 out of Hartford, which is pretty much a dead frequency here usually. I was also getting something on 106.1... didn't take the time to figure out what.

B-104 is WAEB-FM Allentown, PA. It's a Clear Channel owned CHR Station. I know this beucause from 7/21-7/24 I was at the Writing.Com Convention in Bethlehem, PA. B-104 does weekly remotes from the hotel's bar/night club that I stayed at. (That's what the B in WAEB stands for. The A for Allentown and the E for Easton. The Leghigh Valley Airport code is ABE).

Magic 95.7 from Hartford? Don't you mean Kiss 95.7? There's also 95.7 WZID out of Manchester, NH.

The 106.1 could have been either WCOD on Cape Cod or WBLI on Long Island.

In the summer, I used to get a lot of coastal New Jersey stations, especially down by the shore. 100.7 WZXL/Wildwood-Atlantic City was one station that could be received quite often.

Magic 95.7 is from Duluth, Minnesota. You weren't really getting that, were you?

It's possible, there was E Skip to that area on Friday afternoon.

I was flipping around to see what I could pick up, and only heard the liner, which I thought was Magic 95.7. When I got to my destination, I did a quick Google search and came up with Hartford CT. Perhaps it was Kiss 95.7 out of Hartford, and I was mixed up by the time I made this post. My memory, however, is of Magic 95.7.

I noticed the dx is really only hapening at night have you guys been getting the same effect? or does it only really happen at night?

As usual, I was out in my car listening to my Sirius using the built-in FM transmitter and started getting static (on 99.5), so I turned it off and I got a very clear WBAI NYC, it sounded local, though there was a time that I also heard Boston's country station on the same freq take it out. I switched down to 99.3 and instead of Lazer, I heard "Smooth Jazz 99.3". I haven't tried looking that one up yet.

Nights are normally best for DXing. Also, DXing may be good during certain weather conditions. The same happens with me. All good DXing at night.

I'm not sure, do they ID as "Smooth Jazz"? because I'm very certain that's what they said.
