drove home listening to french on 102.7, played Metallica Nothing Else Matters at some point

and right now, I'm seeing on analog TV, a channel 2, 3, 4 and 6, but they're in and out too quickly and too fuzzy to identify

well there are only 2 FM Sports station on 97.1 in the midwest i know of and thats WXYT out of Detroit and WBNS out of Columbus and since you said you hear a columbus mention you got WBNS out of Columbus Ohio for your UNID 97.1.

Thanks to the wonderful technology of the iPhone, i was able to ID most of the stations on the fly right there in the car, as well as record audio of a couple of the catches. A bad thunderstorm with lots of cloud to ground lightning has come up here now so I've disconnected my antenna, and I'll check the band one more time after it's over.

It's been an incredible couple of days for e-skip. Texas and Mexico yesterday, Florida this morning and Colorado and nebraska this evening

It sure has been a good three days of E-Skip. For all those three days...there were mainly Texas and Mexico stations. Then tonight...I got stations in Canada, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, and even Wyoming. I also got WJCB 88.5 in Clewiston, Florida which repeats the programming of WJFP-FM 91.1 in Fort Pierce, Florida this morning at the 9:00am hour.

I logged in 28 stations but here are some stations I logged during the Canadian-US E-Skip opening:

91.1 CINN Hearst, ON (920 miles; "Cinn FM") - The station broadcasts an alternative rock music format in French.
91.5 CKPR Thunder Bay, ON (869 miles; "91.5 CKPR") - This station was formerly "CKPR NewsRadio 91.5" but a few months after the switch to FM, the station became "91.5 CKPR" and changed formats to adult contemporary music.
93.3 WSNE Taunton, MA (796 miles; "93-3 Coast FM")
95.5 CJTK Sudbury, ON (717 miles; "K95.5") - The on-air DJ said "The K" when I heard the station.
97.3 KAML Gillette, WY (1249 miles; "97.3 Camel FM") - My personal US distance record.
104.1 CFQX Selkirk, MB (1144 miles; "QX104") - My personal Canadian distance record and new province.
105.5 CICY Selkirk, MB (1144 miles; "NCI-FM") - This and CFQX ties my long distance record for a Canadian station I heard via E-Skip.

On the Texas/Mexico E-Skip opening from that morning, I logged in some of the following stations:

89.5 XHRV Matamoros, TAMPS (1071 miles; "Radio Formula")
94.5 KFRQ Harlingen, TX (1065 miles; "Q94.5")
99.5 KKPS Brownsville, TX (1070 miles; "Que Pasa 99.5")

All in all...the week in E-Skip DXing has been going great and I am hoping for another big FM opening before the season ends.

Bamawolf, the 97.9 may be Baltimore's 98 Rock or the other 98 Rock in Tampa, 98.7 playing rock is most likely to be WNOR in Norfolk, VA and the French stations could be from Quebec.

I should mention, all of this was logged using the factory radio in a 2004 Monte Carlo, no stations showed any RDS. The 97.9 is neither of the 98 Rocks, confirmed by yes.com, Suspected to be WZZU Lynchburg VA, (WZZI / WLEQ trimulcast) which has no listings on yes.com (just now emailed the PD of WZZU/WZZI/WLEQ to confirm if it was them or not)

Not a thing here in Bothell WA. 7/28 had a OK opening to WY, but that's about it.

Well WZZI/WZZU is out, got a reply back that they were not playing those songs at that time, The search continues for the mystery 97.9.
