NICE E-SKIP FRIDAY, SUPERB E-SKIP SATURDAY

It was the FM DX e-SKIP opening that wouldn’t quit Friday evening and all day Saturday here in New York's Hudson Valley. It would go away from time to time, but kept coming back. Total logs now since May 2003 stand at 766. There were many unID’s, and of course many stations I’d heard before, including Houston’s “Arrow" KKRW-93.7 at 1470 miles which I heard both Friday and Saturday. This is certainly the most productive FM DX opening I’ve encountered. On TV, Saturday morning CBS-5 Ft. Smith, AR (KFSM) was in forever with cartoons, and later in the afternoon NBC-5 Mitchell, SD (KDVL) was in for a long long time. So far it's quiet on the DX front Sunday morning. Good DX to all!Chris from Poughkeepsie

I was getting Live 97.1/FREE FM (as ID'ed twice during the reception) from Detroit, MI for about 15 minutes down here in the Northern Orlando area on a car stereo. Crazy stuff! Came in better than the Tampa ones an hour southwest of me.

Hey there dx1ng... here's a guy from the other end of the skip. ;D Unfortunately, I was delivering pizza at the time of the Saturday skip, so I could only listen in short five-minute stretches while I was on the road... but here in St. Paul, MN, I did pick up 94.1 WYSP "Free-FM" from Philadelphia (despite its only being a 16-kW station.)Strangely, this was the only station I was able to get, despite a full tune around the dial -- our three best tropo/skip frequencies (97.7, 97.9 and 103.3) were all completely dead. (Perhaps my receiver was desensing -- most of our delivery area lies within five miles of the huge Twin Cities combiner at Shoreview.)

Grrrradio... Good going on getting WYSP. It must be tough hearing stations from here in the Northeast which tend to be much lower powered than in other parts of the country. Most New York City staitons are just 6000 watts or so. Here in the Poughkeepsie market, the most powerful signal is WSPK-104.7 with 7400 watts. There are a couple stations around 6000 watts, and a few with all of 300 or so watts, but decent antenna height. With all your 100 kw stations in your area, it must be tough for our locals to ever get through!!OKCRadioGuy.... Thanks for the KRXO info. Actually I had it right in the log book, just typed it wrong here. I had an unID "The Gospel Station" on 88.3 Saturday (6/10) at 11:38am. It looks like this might be KAZC in Oklahoma, which is part of a network of 4 Oklahoma stations known as "The Gospel Station", especially since other signals from Eastern Oklah and Western Arkansas were coming in at that time, along with a good channel 5 TV from Ft. Smith. But, there are so many other religious stations on 88.3, that it could have been someone else... so I just don't have enough to log this one.Another intriguing unID was "The Rock 105" and "The Rock Station" on 105.3, at 2:51pm that day. There is such a station in San Diego, California, but I don't really think I got them. E-Skip was dying out around that time, but generally I was getting signals from Oklahoma and Kansas. I'm still researching this one.Today... June 16, it looks like some FM-Skip was trying to get started. Just before 8am, I ID'd both KSNC-TV-2 Kansas, and WESH-TV-2 Florida. At 9am, I had "OETA", KOET-3-Oklahoma, and at 10am, a channel 3 from Kansas with statewide weather. The only skip I've heard on FM this morning is a brief KISR-93.7 Arkansas at 9:12am with "Kisser Good Morning" show. I've heard KISR many times.Maybe some good skip will develop for the weekend. Good DX to all.Chris from Poughkeepsie

I had some brief e-skip this morning in Coldwater, MI. I got one new station.95.5- KPHT- Rocky Ford, CO- Hot 95-5. Sounded like an Urban AC station with 'Smooth' by Santana, 'Hold On' by En Vogue and 'One Sweet Day' by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men. Confirmed through yes.com. 1060 miles- NEW #762Also heard an unID CCM station on 88.1 and I think I may have heard something on 96.1 as well, but they both faded before I could ID them. I work this afternoon so hopefully any FM e-skip will be exploding by the time I get out.

Surprisingly, this isn't the first time I've gotten skip from the Northeast here in the Midwest. A couple of summers ago, while traveling southbound I-35 on the way to Des Moines, my car radio was pulling in a ton of Class B's from out east, including 102.9 WMGK out of Philly -- something like 9 kW at 1100 feet -- and one on 95.3 that was coming in right on top of a 50-dBu station from 40 miles away!My other experience with e-skips (particularly an intense one from Colorado Springs and Twin Falls to Minneapolis in 2001) has also shown that a skip signal can come in full-quieting on a first adjacent to a strong local. This makes sense because once the signal makes it up into the e-layer, its path to you is nothing but open air (i.e. down through the rest of the atmosphere), and on this path, there are no obstacles to block the line of sight... so it's going to come to you as strong as a local. This might explain how skip from the Northeast is possible even despite the stations' relatively low power levels... once an e-skip gets going, nothing can stop it! (Even with that being said, however... if I got some 100-watt Class D community station via skip... I'd probably still faint from pure surprise. ;))

Central New Jersey checks in with Wave 100 (WVVE-FM) from Panama City, FL! Some crazy e-skip today.

I have to second the post by the guy in New Jersey. Driving into DC today from Annapolis on US 50 there was a spectaculor opening on 94.1 into the Pan Handle of Florida (Pensacola) and from Atlanta. Today was so strong in fact htat 93.9 WKYS out of DC was being blocked out for a time, and that is only 20 miles to the west!

theese are my best today
WFLZ 99.3 FM
WPBZ-FM 103.1 MHz
WIKX-FM 92.9 MHz
Also WWUS
Thoes are the furthest i got today!
Also i got LITE MIX 99.9 from mobile alabama...
all from east central jersey
