Are you serious!? Do you really think that RFF is tight? They play a bunch of crazy S. Granted, it's not thousands of songs that music geeks will load into their IPOD...and mind you, never play... but for a radio station, this one has variety. They play a bunch of new stuff and against programming philosophy, they don't play those songs that often to get them familiar. Let me put it like this... we don't appreaciate what we have until it's gone... if you moved somewhere else, to let's say Birmingham Alabama or Miami, wherever... those stations are playing 300 songs top. Look, I have not stake in game. I just want to shine a light on the fact that this city, has more variety of Alt and Rock product than just about any in the nation. Embrace it al ready and hit the volume button up... no matter what station it is.

Used to live in and work in Roanoke, VA. Market #115, last I checked. TWO rock stations and they're Classic/Mainstream, WROV and WZZI. 5 power currents are spun for the entire market and the rest of thier libraries are LIGHT and STALE. ZZI is a little more broad than ROV, but it's all about the same thing over and over. When I recently visited the good ole 'Noke I realized how much rock is in Philly. Great point above. Philly is OVERFLOWING with Rock. It is a shame with all the sameness in the stations, but at least there are options.

They'd lose a fraction of their audience. Welcome to the land of the PPM, where every song (literally) counts!

WMGK and WOGL are at the top of the ratings list because they both play well-tested, well-known, very familiar songs over and over and over. WBEN-FM, even with its wide-open playlist, is towards the top of the cume list because it plays very well-known songs.

They play a bunch of new stuff and against programming philosophy, they don't play those songs that often to get them familiar.

WRFF IS a very tight station. They're playing an estimated 20 Currents - nothing too spectacular in that department. The most played song in the past week is actually a rather old one - The Killers "Read My Mind". I listened to them for an hour earlier in the week and didn't really hear anything that surprised me. They remind me of what G Rock used to sound like before they opened up and broadened the playlist. They play only one Smiths song (take a guess) and no Morrissey, hardly any Depeche Mode, very little Radiohead, etc. I could do without All American Rejects, Lifehouse and 3 Doors Down as well.

With WMMR and WYSP both leaning toward stodgy forklift driver rock, the market is there for the taking if WRFF shows a bit of courage. More currents, more '80s and '90s and going a little bit heavier (the occasional Tool, Rage, or even Korn track wouldn't hurt) would all help this station if they went for it. But they seem to be adhering to the "Adult Alternative" formula a bit too much, and that will hold them back.

Soulcrusher, i too think G-Rock sounds a little better overall. unfortunatly, i only get it when im at my levittown location my other place is another 100 miles away. G-Rock starts to fade out in about 10 miles past levittown in every direction unless your going into Jersey. WRFF is a great station, and share philly areas strongest signal with WMGK (at least in the NW direction toward schuylkill county). i wake up to it everyday on my Alarm Clock, and in Levittown i wake up to WMMR.

And now G-Rock is in 17th place 12+ with one of the best 6kw signals in New Jersey (106.5).

GROCK hasn't yet had a full book with all of the great changes Terrie has made. This book and the following will be the results of their true test of a deep library, great on-air talent, and PLENTY of speciallty programming. I think it is what Alt radio should be!

GROCK hasn't yet had a full book with all of the great changes Terrie has made. This book and the following will be the results of their true test of a deep library, great on-air talent, and PLENTY of speciallty programming. I think it is what Alt radio should be!

WRFF I think is doing what they do very well for Philly. Keeping pretty well with new music, and hitting the nostalgia factor for those who grew up with Y100 (and WDRE too).

I agree. I remember when Y100 was flipped to that God awful "Beat." Everyone on the board bitched and bemoaned the lack of an Alt station. Now we have one, and, what happens? Bitching and moaning! That might be good though; when I was in the Marine Corps, the motto was "A bitching Marine is a happy Marine!"
