The geniuses at Directv believe they can pull in a lot of Howard Stern listeners by hiring Artie Lange. This was in the works even before Tony Bruno's Twitter gaffe. as Nick and Artie had already substituted for Bruno one night when he was on vacation. Lange almost immediately after that started telling any media source who would listen to him that a full time Nick and Artie show would air soon.
you can be sure DirectV paid WIP to air that show. Why would a station that has NEVER run any national syndication make that abortion the first thing on their airwaves - even on a split am-only feed. This show has the slowest launch of any shows and little traction in 6 months on the air. Directv suits need some major market clearances and are now paying for it. What do they have now, 25 stations? Another example of non radio execs thinking Lange's Howard Stern connection would make him some major selling point to affiliates or advertisers. Who would sponsor that show: rehab clinics and strip clubs? The clowns who made this decision will probably get "promoted" in the company once this fiasco fizzles in less than 1 year.
