Nick Cannon to take over mornings on 92.3 NOW

I don't know how many songs per hour he'll play. I hope he fails miserably. CBS didin't learn the lesson with David Lee Roth?

I like that. "I always wanted to do radio." He should have added, "even though I don't have a clue how to do it." This one's headed for the scrap heap by the end of the year.

Nick Cannon is a great jock. He did mornings in Seattle at KJR then went to Chicago and took over for Larry Lujack with Top 5 numbers and then I think he did mornings for a while at KIIS between Dees leaving and Seacrest arriving. The only reason he didn't stay at KIIS was he met Mariah and she told him he didn't have to work anymore once they married. I guess his love for radio has won out because he's back on the air were he belongs. Also he's amazing at imaging and production. And he also loves appearances at Home Depots and County fairs.

Great move CBS glad to know great jocks are still appreciated.

allaccess yesterday said changes where coming to WYSP

i hope cbs is not blowing up ysp for top 40 but hey they blew up WBCN in boston for hot ac so anything could happen

For anyone in the New York area unfamiliar with Mr. Cannon's personality or body of work, here's your next chance to catch him: From the above article:

At MTV... he is behind "Nick Cannon Presents Hatin' on '09," a comedic year-in-revew special that will air on New Year's Day. Cannon taped an appearance as President Obama, with rapper-actor 50 Cent also set to do a segment.

Gee, I wonder if Nick is going to do "characters" on his new mornign show like Mr. Imus...

You guys stole all the lines I was going to use to dump on this move!!

He better start taping 'best of' shows NOW so when he rolls in at 8am or doesn't show up at all one morning, they got something to play.

Vegas is setting the over/under on Memorial Day. I'm going under.

PS Domino Rippy I was totally fooled by your post till you got to the Home Depot thing. I really don't know anything about Nick Cannon.

News flash: the Hot AC existed long before they blew up WBCN. (They blew it up for Sports, but flipped frequencies in the process.)

BTW, from my sources he got a nice contract 90 grand a year and he gets weekends off if he voice tracks a Saturday show. Not Bad. Mariah will do traffic and news.

I knew they were close to announcing somebody for mornings when I started seeing actual job postings for a 6-10am personality for WXRK. That only happens once they've hired someone.

It's nice to know that the few job postings that do appear these days are simply EEO CYA's while companies nail down synergistic non-radio celebs for gigs.

Pathetic. Nick Cannon is not talented at all, and now he's doing radio? AMP's call in LA was excellent with Carson, but Nick Cannon in the biggest radio market in the US doing mornings? Can you say disaster? This will be NO MATCH to Elvis and the Zoo...

To all you jealous wannabee morning jocks ! Put a sock in it ( Booo Hooo I want him to fail :'( ). Give Nick Cannon a chance.

Your David Lee Roth comparison fails miserably: Roth was a band singer who only had a few bit parts in movies. Nick Cannon has been a part of the creative process in both movies and TV (writing, producing, hosting), plus his own musical and business explorations, including a record label and an executive position at the TeenNick channel. And unlike Roth, Cannon doesn't have the pressure of being Howard Stern's hot talk replacement.

Try and name another celebrity who's tied into contemporary youth or pop culture the way Cannon is--I don't think you can. No, he's never done daily radio before--but his previous ventures tends to convince me he'd be a quick learner. And he'd have plenty to talk about, at the very least. I'm sure Mr. Mariah Carey won't worry much about your ill wishes of him, considering he's currently living a better life than all of us put together.

True Cannon has more media experience than Roth, but it's still an example of CBS hoping that star power will bring in listeners quickly, instead of getting a radio professional who may work out better in the long run.

I watched when Cannon hosted America's Got Talent, and all I could think was that I wished he would stop talking.

Technically, Nick Cannon will be replacing a robojock. He can't do no worse.

You wait, next thing radio will do in NYC is give Whoppi Goldberg a morning show. You wait it's coming. BTW, I heard that the NOW gig was between Nick and Kim Kardashian. Glad they went with Nick.
