Nick Cannon to take over mornings on 92.3 NOW

Domino Rippy said:
You wait, next thing radio will do in NYC is give Whoppi Goldberg a morning show. You wait it's coming. BTW, I heard that the NOW gig was between Nick and Kim Kardashian. Glad they went with Nick.

I forgot about Whoopi! And then there's Jerry Springer, Al Franken...

When will radio learn?

Um....whoopi already was on radio, and look what happened to her show.
And look what happened to Steve Harvey ( One of the Top rated urban show in America ).

In fairness, Steve Harvey's previous local radio show in L.A. was a tank job.

Hey, I have this great idea. Let's get CBS to blow out all of the professional jocks at Now and hire all celebrities that appeal to young people. Let's see, we can start with Cannon in the morning. For mid-days, we'll get Taylor Swift. Afternoons any of the Kardashian bimbos. Evenings, Lindsay Lohan. Overnights, let's see, how about Jessica Simpson. And for weekends, we can put on Ashley Simpson. And the new PD can be Mario Lopez. Now there's a radio station that will appeal to those all important younger demos. Hell, inside three months, this will be the top-billing radio station in the world. Z-100 can switch to all religion. WKTU can go talk. No need for any competition. This is THE RADIO STATION for New York's young crowd. Come on CBS, let's do it.

Not really. Radio One F up. Thats why Radio One station in L.A. fell apart after Steve Harvey quit.

Maybe they can retain their old WVNJ call letters...

rapking has it right again! The show was a format winner in L.A. (even on the iffy 100.3 signal) and on R1 stations in Texas before RadioOne forced changes on him that Harvey didn't like, and one or both sides decided to call it quits. No morning show that came after him mirrored that L.A. success.

The great irony in the entire situation: Steve Harvey's successful show is precisely the reason Radio One has bumped up their Urban AC exploits in Atlanta (from one tiny class A to two simulcast C3 signals covering the entire metro). Largely, all the money that Premiere & Clear Channel is making now could have been making the former 'Syndication One' a player instead of a radio afterthought.

Has she turned on the radio in recent weeks? Virtually any station in all-Christmas mode is playing "All I Want For Christmas Is You" every three hours!

I hope he fails miserably. CBS didin't learn the lesson with David Lee Roth?

Your David Lee Roth comparison fails miserably: Roth was a band singer who only had a few bit parts in movies. Nick Cannon has been a part of the creative process in both movies and TV (writing, producing, hosting), plus his own musical and business explorations, including a record label and an executive position at the TeenNick channel. And unlike Roth, Cannon doesn't have the pressure of being Howard Stern's hot talk replacement.

Try and name another celebrity who's tied into contemporary youth or pop culture the way Cannon is--I don't think you can. No, he's never done daily radio before--but his previous ventures tends to convince me he'd be a quick learner. And he'd have plenty to talk about, at the very least. I'm sure Mr. Mariah Carey won't worry much about your ill wishes of him, considering he's currently living a better life than all of us put together.

22 year old females don't tune in because a guy is 29, or because he's married to a past her prime singer, or the host of a Tv show that is targeted towards 40 -60 year olds. He has very little young Suburban girl relatability and no experience doing morning radio. It's not just talking about pop culture or going to celeb parties otherwise Paris Hilton would have a morning show with Brody Jenner. Nick Cannon is a guy who is known but you just can't remember why. Good luck to him. He'll be sleeping late again in less than a year

I am not a fan of his, thus no excitement on my part.

I'm actually a lot more interested to hear what the DJ Yonny mixing is going to sound like and if that will at all take the station in a better direction come the new year IF the station chooses to keep him on after the holidays.... however as far at the whole Nick Cannon thing, eh... very underwhelmed.

Might as well have Perez Hilton do mornings. He has barely any experience in radio as well, except for his Radio Perez syndicated updates. What would be the drawing factor to his show? He'll get the audience all the freshest celebrity gossip as it hits, get notible guests like he did on his VH1 specials and he'll be too busy texting and updating his blog that he'll keep the music rolling!
