Has anyone else heard this format? I was spinning around the dail the other night and managed to pick it up in the Charlottesville area. After reading the VARTV website info about it, I was wondering what other people thought. Is this format viable? Is it just a stunt?....Just wondering....

Maybe I wasn't too clear about this "NICK-FM". The NICK stands for St. Nick, as in the jolly fat guy who comes down the chimney. I was scanning through the dial, and heard Elvis' "Blue Christmas", the only thing funny was that it was after the new year, I thought Christmas was over and done. Then I waited for a legal ID, and that came on and said something to the effect of "If you love Chirstmas music, you'll love us, we're the all new NICK-FM, all christmas music, all the time. It isn't a fluke, the VARTV news post said something about it and they also have a website www.nickfm.com.

They're stunting... The official word so far has been... "Merry Christmas!"

Ever since I read about this back in the summer I figure these stations will pick up the Spirit FM format that airs on a handfull of stations throughout the Virginias. Spirit FM features a Christian AC fromat.

The armchair QB in me says these stations will do something PAR is already doing i.e. Spirit FM or Joy FM...

God, please let it be just a stunt. In the Evans world of radio(which is never perfect), Christmas music would NOT be so constistant until the week of christmas, and certainly NOT after christmas. I see it becoming a Christian AC like station after this stunt is over with. Now, I am not trying to come across as a scrooge, but this has to be a stunt.

Going to start a line for posts for this area, strangest radio stunt formats...

Bopst, first up, Happy New Year to you and yours. I listened to 103.1 for about 2 minutes then turned it off in disgust to be honest with you. As you know, the alt stations here have never met my approval since WVGO bit the dust. As for nick, when I heard about it on VARTV, I have to admit I laughed so hard I started crying. Christmas being over with(my personal collection of The Beatles christmas greetings have GONE into the attic until next year, along with the other decorations)I know this has to be a stunt for a Christian AC station. That or a drastic change that I don't see coming.

On a more personal note for those of us in Richmond, I would like to extend my heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the Harvey family. A great talent has been lost forever along with his loving family because of a senseless act of horrible violence. May god bless them all and their family.
