Nick Pope, UFO journalist, History Channel

Anyone who has ever watched "Ancient Aliens", or one of the many History Channel shows about UFO's, knows who Nick Pope is. He was also at one time, head of the UK Ministry of Defence. He passed away following a long battle with cancer.

Nick was never the head of the MoD, he was a mid-level bureaucrat. His primary job was flight clearance for military a/c. Like Elizondo, he overstated his UFO "chops," although he could truthfully claim his PD included some UFO duties.

Good guy, very gracious. I emailed Nick when I was researching a possible article on a USAF exchange pilot lost while flying with the RAF. He went missing while intercepting a "UFO" over the North Sea in an RAF Lightning fighter. Nick responded promptly and with great detail, put paid immediately to the "alien abduction" silliness some had claimed.

With similar backgrounds we hit it off fairly well. We corresponded for a while, he was a true gentleman. Disappointed I never got to meet him in person.

RIP Nick
