Nickelodeon Getting a Makeover?

I have read on numerous sources that the children's channel is changing their logo for the first time in 25 years. Which means, yep, the legendary orange splat logo we all know and love is going away for good. It is said that the new logo will make way on September 28th.

I did read on one source that they might rebrand themselves as "The Nick."

The N will change to Teen Nick and Noggin will change to Nick Jr.

Kind of sad. I remember growing up around that logo and Nickelodeon gak. I guess some things have to come to an end eventually.

WOW! Those are hideous logos - brought to you by the same geniuses that work so hard to screw up TV Land, MTV and VH1 (among others).

Hey, I like a fresh new logo as much as the next guy, but those are just awful. Even SpongeBob will wince at those!

As far as I am concerned Nickelodeon died when they killed "Ren & Stimpy" about thirteen years ago. Nick's been devolving quite rapidly since then. Unfortunately these hideous, overly minimalist (yes, there is such a thing) logos can not bring those two eediots back.

Nope, Nick already died an unfortunate death, in 1996......

It's funny too. Everyone says the channel is terrible, yet I hear it achieved a historical high rating in 2008 along with USA (probably thanks to Spongebob and that iCarly show).

People who liked the old shows and not the new ones seem to think the world at large must agree with their opinions, evidence to the contrary (like Nick's continued strong ratings) be damned.

I liked Nick back in my childhood days, but have the common sense to realize today's kids aren't going to like the same shows that I did. I loathe SpongeBob, but clearly there are many more people who tune in (by choice, under protest--it makes no difference in the end). I don't get the Teen Nick shows any more than the tween stuff on Disney, but pretty clearly, the kids do.

Maybe they should bring back Livewire. Bet that would be a smash today. And to top it off, bring back this branding clip:

Wikipedia said that TVLand will be getting a new logo too. Will it say "NickReality"? I hope not.

(sigh) This entire new logo mess has been wearing me down for two months with annoying fanboy battles and sources from Nick fanfourms that get three visitors a month. That channel isn't getting a new logo.

They actually cited that one of the reasons they're changing the logo is it looks less chaotic on a business card. I'm serious; not because of something aesthetic, but so they don't have to pay too much for custom business cards. Like any "iCarly" or "Blues Clue" fan gives a flip about paper adults carry.

Actually "Livewire" WOULD be a smash today if Nickelodeon would bring it back..but in a brand new updated 2009 edition with topics that affect many kids of today like school bullying, internet safety such as how to protect yourself from those sick sexual predators, taking care of one's health, sexual abuse, single parent homes, bipolar disorder, etc... Things that were either unheard of and/or simply wasn't discussed among adults let alone children and teenagers back in 1985.

Who knows !! Maybe if Nick did bring back Livewire or at least show like it..we could have less troubled kids today.

Since when did Nick start catering to the "American Psycho" crowd?

"You like my card? It's bone..."

TV Land changing its logo, too? As mentioned elsewhere, they'll probably just change the name of the network, as the concept of "TV Land" seems to be old-fashioned when compared to the demos they are currently shooting for...

Oh, but no updating. You see, if it was good enough 30 years ago, it has to be good enough, as is, today. Change is bad; change is evil.

That aside, what's to say it would be a smash? Did kids suddenly develop an interest in talk shows? Or is it guessing that, hey, some of the Gen Xers liked it, so that's enough reason to assume it would work again?

Someone posted here that Nick died years ago. Just wondering how old the poster is. My 4 year old daughter absolutely loves Nick, Nick Jr, Noggin etc. My 10 year old neice loves Nick too. Maybe the poster is older than the demos that Nick is going for. (Not a pre-teen girl?)

Kind of like the people complaining that they can't still get their Lionel Richie videos on VH1 or Dire Straits on MTV. Hopelessly outside the target audience folks refusing to move beyond the good old days of their own youth.

Gee Homer, you need to get with it: SpongeBob is an excellent show!

Your broad-brush comments really don't help to drive home your point of view. For example, I HATE what TV Land has been doing. However, as one with little ones at home, I like Nickelodeons programming for the most part. Also, I think it's a shining exception in the Viacom stable in that it's programming is actually better than it was a few years ago. Those were good changes and whoever has been in charge of programming at Nickelodeon is a rare bright spot in a corporation filled with lunkheads. Perhaps that person always brings their own food and water to Black Rock!! :D

As for Nick at Nite - well, yeah, it did die years ago. When it changed to newer shows, it made sense because TV Land took on the classic stuff. But, at this point, it's another mish-mash filled with scheduling inconsistency and not-so-classic sitcoms. George Lopez? Blah!
