Nickelodeon Getting a Makeover?

And the key difference? I'm capable of understanding that my opinions of the programming do not mean they're doing something wrong--they're just not doing something I like. Your take seems to be, "I don't like it, ergo it's awful and stupid." Or perhaps, "An insignificant number of message board posters in a country of millions of people happen to dislike it, ergo it's awful and stupid." A bit like saying the Thai food place that opened around the corner from me is run by idiots because I don't care for the food, and pretending the people happily eating their food in the dining room don't really exist.

I don't care for Lopez's show either (though I find his stand-up funny, it's a strange paradox), but the numbers are what they are--his show's was added to the schedule and the numbers went up. Unless everyone in the country on their own satellite or cable systems suddenly were rendered unable to tune to a different channel by a mysterious affliction, it means a fair number of people have a different take on his show and among all the choices--whether you, I or anyone else likes each of them individually or not--they chose to watch it.

Actually "Livewire" WOULD be a smash today if Nickelodeon would bring it back..but in a brand new updated 2009 edition with topics that affect many kids of today like school bullying, internet safety such as how to protect yourself from those sick sexual predators, taking care of one's health, sexual abuse, single parent homes, bipolar disorder, etc... Things that were either unheard of and/or simply wasn't discussed among adults let alone children and teenagers back in 1985.

Who knows !! Maybe if Nick did bring back Livewire or at least show like it..we could have less troubled kids today.

Oh, but no updating. You see, if it was good enough 30 years ago, it has to be good enough, as is, today. Change is bad; change is evil.

That aside, what's to say it would be a smash? Did kids suddenly develop an interest in talk shows? Or is it guessing that, hey, some of the Gen Xers liked it, so that's enough reason to assume it would work again?

Well where else can the kids of today go to if they want to discuss and learn about such things like bipolar disorder or child sexual preditors online? Parents? Many of them act like such things don't exist. The local pastor? "Why bipolar disorder will send you into the fires of hell !!" Teachers? Forget it !! For many of them its just a paycheck and nothing more. Thats why I believe such a show like Livewire could work today.

"People who liked the old shows and not the new ones seem to think the world at large must agree with their opinions, evidence to the contrary (like Nick's continued strong ratings) be damned."

I never said anything of the sort. My own personal opinion is that the crap they have on there today pales in comparison to what they had ages ago. No-body is obligated to agree with me on that and I never said I thought that. Good for them for (supposedly) getting such strong ratings; I applaud them. I, however, am no longer represented in said supposed ratings; I haven't been for over a decade. All I said and implied was that, in my case, when they cancelled Ren & Stimpy in the late 1990s, I turned the channel off and (for the most part) didn't desire to turn it back on again if I could help it.

This "not if I could help it" thing also goes for having to take care of a young cousin whilst her Mum was on va-kay for two years at the friendly local Graybar Hotel on charges of drunken/drugged driving. I'd only turn on "Sponge-Bob Square Pants" just so she'd shut up about it. And yes, I thought that programme sucked as well.

I am 25.

You might wanna try another pastor, if that's what you expect. Or parent. Or teacher.
I know you're just vilifying parents, pastors, and teachers in one fell swoop to make your "Livewire" idea "stronger" but dang fella. :)

So if Nick is relocating the Nick Jr. and Teen Nick brands, what will Nick show exactly? I miss the game shows...Double Dare 2000 and Legends of the Hidden Temple...

Thank you, some folks are starting to sound really old and crabby with their complaints.

Does anyone really think that the audiences for Nickelodeon are going "Eww, a horrid logo, and what horrible on-screen graphics!" Or anyone who watches Teen Nick or Nick at Nite? No. They're going to go right on watching Spongebob, True Jackson, and George Lopez just as they did before.

I liked Nick back in my childhood days, but have the common sense to realize today's kids aren't going to like the same shows that I did. I loathe SpongeBob, but clearly there are many more people who tune in (by choice, under protest--it makes no difference in the end). I don't get the Teen Nick shows any more than the tween stuff on Disney, but pretty clearly, the kids do.

Maybe they should bring back Livewire. Bet that would be a smash today. And to top it off, bring back this branding clip:

I LOVE Back At The Banyard. Otis The Cow RULES!!

That's your view. I don't agree with it - though I am not one of the complainers in this particular thread. At least not as far as Nickelodeon is concerned.

Nope, I don't think it will make any difference when it comes to viewership. But that doesn't change the fact (not even opinion: fact) that they are ugly as sin and that's what we're commenting on.

Bring back reruns of ' Hey Dude! " LOL!

Seriously, Noggin > The N > Teen Nick. Why not just name it Degrassi T.V. for all the Degrassi marathons it shows?
