Agency money is big bucks. It's hard to walk away from , particularly if you have a large amount of debt. And while older folks may have more money, the younger demo is much quicker to go into to debt if it is a "must have" thing. Debt service is the big thing. Unless you've owned your station forever, chances are you owe and can't fool around with a format that can't produce the major revenue.

Not realistic....No regional FM powerhouse is going to exist without the ability
to garner National and regional agency dollars. Frankly, even in the local
markets many of the moderate size businesses are represented by agencies.
That includes many (not all) but most car dealerships, Supermarket chains,
Insurance agencies, etc. Unless you've sold media you wouldnt understand
how very few local businesses make their own advertising buying decisions these
days, and of the ones that do MOST do not have a huge pile of money to spend.
My AM does very well existing largely on local direct revenue but my sales staff
and I work for every penny of it...and any AM operator will tell you the same.
But it simply is not even conceivable for a regional fm to exist without regional
and national agency income, and to get the larger share you need numbers in the
demos they want. That is reality.

Just when you think you have radio formats figured out....someone throws in a monkey wrench. According to a country music programming site www.allaboutcountry.com.....the song "Hey! Soul Sister" by Train must have been added somewhere, because it's now listed under their "new releases" section. So...is the steel guitar being replaced by the ukulele?

Sounds like title envy to me!!!

Then there's "title envy". Once in awhile a really mass-appeal song comes along and every format tries to play it. This is about current-driven formats. Two examples: country playing Kid Rock's "All The Summer Long". That song and artist had no relevance to the country lifestyle but was one of the catchiest sing-alongs of 2008. Also, Michael Buble's "Haven't Net You yet" being played at CHR. These are both examples of "middle drift". To be successful, you don't want to be too narrow, but you can't be all things to all people. There's a reason there are formats.

In regard to Rock of Harrisburg and those questioning the Peaks
direction with regard to more recent music ads........sorry to disappoint you
but Peak #1 18 - 49 /Peak #1 25-54 . So, the way it looks to me
Peak is on the right track. $$$$$$$

Yes. Since I've also questioned what's been going on over there, I will also give them their due. Congratulations on a really great job once again. The York market has been ruled by the western front....WGTY and WYCR for awhile now.
That can not go unnoticed.

This station has been a perennial winner since they filled the huge classic hits hole in York when they came on many years ago.

Those who have tried to shoot at them have come up empty.
