NICOM ANTENNAS?

OKAY, MR. ENGINEERS, HERE'S ONE FOR YA! NICOM HAS A VERTICAL ONLY DIPOLE STAINLESS STEEL MODEL ANTENNA FOR USE UP TO 2KW, BROADBAND...

THE GAIN OF THE ANTENNA IS "1".

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS ANTENNA AND OTHERS OFFERED FOR MUCH GREATER PRICE FROM ERI, JAMPRO, ETC? WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THIS ANTENNA??

Vertical only is usually only accepted for translators or LPFM stations. At that power level I would go with the Scala FM-V. Well built, rugged antenna, somewhat broadband (as I remember--three different models across the FM band. Handles at least 100 watts (used it for more than that). Last one I bought was around $400.

More inexpensive, but also ruggedly built is the SWR CP antenna. They are under $400 and handle around 300 watts.

Many of the cheaper antennas are good only for sheltered environments--not half-way up a tower. Some also use sliding sections or gamma-match adjustments that can get loose and detune the antenna after a couple of months of wind and rain.

I've sold an installed a whole lot of the Nicom BKG77 antenna...never had any problems with them, great inexpensive broadband translator or backup antenna.

Haven't had any experience with their Vertical-Only...but I'm sure it's a decent product.

If you don't need the 2kW input, I would look at the Kathrein-Scala FMV-MP...Power Gain is 1.26, 500 watts input. Very inexpensive and a solid performer.

If you need the higher power, The Nicom is probably the most cost-effective choice.
