Sitcoms are hot, reality is not. That seems to be the
read after week two of the season. "Two And A Half
Men" remains number one; "2 Broke Girls," "New Girl,"
and "Suburgatory" remain strong; "How I Met Your
Mother," "Mike & Molly," The Big Bang Theory," "Modern
Family," and "The Middle" are all up as much as 20% over
last fall. On the other end, "Survivor," "Dancing With The
Stars," and "The Biggest Loser" are down 15% or more over
a year ago. Fox is the only network to gain audience over
a year ago, thanks to "The X Factor" and "Terra Nova," and
despite "Glee"'s being down 32%. But while "Unforgettable"
and "Person Of Interest" remain strong, "Pan Am"'s ratings
fell 30% in week 2; "Charlie's Angels" (48th out of 110 shows),
"Prime Suspect" (59th), and "A Gifted Man" (40th) are weak.
As you already know, "Playboy Club" is gone, to be replaced
by a newsmagazine hosted by Brian Williams beginning Oct. 31.
No real surprises: "2 Broke Girls" fell out of the top 10; "60 Minutes"
finished fourth as Andy Rooney signed off.
Again, I can't give the numbers since I don't have Nielsen's
permission, but the ratings shape up like this:
Networks: CBS remains a comfortable first, followed by ABC,
Fox, NBC, Univision, and the CW.
