Night Video AM Bandscan during Aurora 3-11-12

Very interesting. I was listening in Knoxville, TN at that time and the difference is you had almost nothing skipping in, I think I caught one weak Radio Reloj while my experience was getting a lot of Spanish, several Cubans (Reloj in 5 different places), some Georgia and Alabama; you had locals with a few more distant ones popping in...such as KWKH on 1130, which has to be rare from Northern Ohio. Had them stronger here. Can't imagine what you would have had strong on 680 with the ethnic music...far as I know CFTR is still all news and you didn't have CKZM on 740. 1290 was not WHIO this time, though I have no clue who would have been playing James Taylor on 1290. The band was sufficiently clear for some of your semi-local graveyarders to come through.

The station on 680 may have been WNZK/Detroit. They broadcast on 690 during the day but switch pattern and frequency to 680 at night. As far as the James Taylor station on 1290, I have no idea. Had Radio Reloj on 570 and what sounded like another Cuban on 670. WKNR appeared to be coming in unusually clear for nighttime. 850 is normally a mess at night. I have heard KWKH before but more often than not, 1130 is WBBR/New York at night. I'm also very puzzled at what was coming in on 610 with music like that.

That sounded like Fox News on 610. It was the top of the hour and I've heard British correspondents on there before, so that was probably WTVN. I am not picking up WSCR either tonight, but WGN, WBBM and WMVP are all quite listenable right now. KOA coming in very well on 850, at least by our standards. I was impressed by how well you were getting WLW, CKLW (since you're south of their tower and ostensibly behind the pattern) and KMOX as well WKNR; recognized Kenny Roda immediately. Judging from the slop, WTAM doesn't seem to put a powerhouse signal into your area, although it is clear.

The Cuban on 670 is Radio Rebelde, which could heard all over the band during this past few nights. A quick spin across a small portion my car's dial found Rebelde on 600, 670, 710...

The mysterious music on 610, may be a portion of the 'filler' they use on AM Coast to Coast, leading me to think it may be CKTB, out of St. Catherines Ontario. I'm currently tuned into Coast to Coast on CKTB. The satellite feed which carries the program, seems carries quite a bit music, to fill any gaps between local station activity (commercials, announcements, weather, etc) and the carried program.

Actually KWKH has been heard in far-flung places for quite some time; they're still operating under an engineering STA which has been extended numerous times. While they do run their authorized 50 kW daytime, KWKH continues to be non-directional at night with 12.5 kW.

I think this station is what I heard on 610 when I was in Conneaut last summer with my girlfriend visiting her family. WTVN was nowhere to be found and this station was pretty loud.
 
WTVN carries Coast to Coast as well but it wouldn't start until 1am. I don;t know if St. Catherines carries a replay earlier, and I'd suspect WTVN instead of Ontario, especially with northern signals attenuated. I had forgotten about Detroit on 680.
 
Could have sworn I heard French on 690 but I thought the Montreal French station was off the air along with 940. I'm thinking CHUM for your 1050, and the ethnic Toronto station for your 1430. There's a 1390 in the Youngstown area that has made the trip to Tennessee a time or two around sunset. Your other 1250 might have been WTAE depending on pattern.

The 690 may have been the Detroit ethnic station still on day pattern/frequency as Detroit's sunset occurs a few minutes after sunset here in Vermilion and the video started about 10 minutes before the sun began setting here. WNIO sounds right for 1390 if they were still on day pattern. Their night pattern has a null in my direction. During the day it gets slopped on by WDLW 1380 and I haven't been able to hear anything underneath the slop. Also I'm not sure what was coming in on 1580.
 
This is the second time I've not realized the Detroit 680/690 combo was there LOL! No clue on your 1580; Washington (Morningside MD) gets out real well sunrise and sunset bit they're news talk...at least this week. What was the French on 1590?

I imagine 690 and maybe even 680 down your way gets covered up by WLW. As for the French station on 1590 I have no idea who that would be either. I figured something from Canada but R/L doesn't even show any Canadian AM stations on 1590. Only thing I can think of is WCGO/Evanston, IL with their ethnic format. Normally WAKR is there on top of others. The Spanish on 1610 was Toronto. I noticed the 416 area code in Spanish being given along with the next 3 numbers.
 
No way to get 680/690 especially since WLW turned on iBoc. I did get 690 one years ago in Ft. Wayne once when WLW was off...also got CHYR on 710 when it was there. Neither from Dayton but on a really good radio CKWW has managed to make it. Evanston might be a possibility for your 1590.

Were you able to get anything else on 700 in the absence of WLW?
 
Not on this occasion since it was during the day. I once received the Dothan, AL station testing when WLW was off the air overnight. In Tenessee I've received the ethnic Asian station (KHSE) in Wylie TX over WLW.

During Hurricane Hugo 690 in Jacksonville (at that time WPDQ) stayed at high power for the benefit of Charleston SC and was widely heard...including in Ft. Wayne.
 
I was just replaying my night AM bandscan video from 3-6-12 and there was a strong station on 1540 coming in talking about Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, MI. I'm wondering what station this was as the KTGG/Spring Arbor, MI is a daytimer and this was a good 2 hours after sunset. Did they 'forget' to sign off that night? I usually get a jumble of weaker stations on 1540 at night as can be heard on the night AM scan video from the following day.
 
Hillsdale College is a sponsor on several conservative talk shows including Rush Limbaugh (even after the Fluke flack); odds are you had KXEL.
