NIGHTMARE at KGO: Dr. Bill attacks Karel ON-AIR and on KGO web site

Unbelievable what is happening at KGO news/talk 810. Dr. Bill argued with fellow KGO talk host Karel at the KGO All Stars debate on Thurs 11/10/05. Bill attacked Karel this weekend Sa and Su 10p-1a PST. In an effort to vigorously "attack" Karel, Dr. Bill has copied material from Karel's private message board (not affiliated with KGO radio) and posted it on the KGO affiliated web page.

The predominately conservative Dr. Bill and the mostly liberal Karel disagree on just about every issue. Many of the KGO hosts personally attack each other on an ongoing basis.

In this case, Dr. Bill has obviously gone too far with copying material without permission from his colleague's web site to the KGO web site. If it was only a link to the web site, this would not necessarily be a program director's nightmare.

Both hosts are entitled to their own opinions. What is obviously inappropriate in the radio business in this case is: 1) Dr. Bill using significant air time to attack a colleague 2) Dr. Bill copying material from a private web site to his employer's web site without Karel's permission

Material copied from Karel's own web site to the KGO web site:

The entire issue is lame, but my comments aren't directed at you for bringing it up - they're directed at the parties involved. It's a bunch of people who evidently have nothing better to do with their lives than play Kiddie Korner online and on the radio. I'm not sure why anyone wants to listen to KGO hosts who handle themselves like children.

Oh wait. I just went through some of the message forums for the fans and they are just as juvenile as the hosts appear to be. One has a pile of wingnuts who call anyone who criticizes the administration treason committers and the other has people who are probably talking to lawyers about the "misuse" of their "copyrighted" messages.

Spare us!

It really makes you wonder why anyone takes these people seriously when they clearly need to have their medication checked.

Sorry, I disagree. Evidently the petty squabbles on KGO attract the nutjob listeners who must be boosting their ratings, because they're sure all over the message boards run for and about these hosts. At least it keeps them all in one place instead of polluting the rest of the Internet. Further, if either host is upset about crossposting, it's another indictment of their cluelessness about the online world. This kind of thing happens all the time and is a big deal only to the extent these people who want to make it a big deal.

Does anyone take wacky (read by these people as "libelous") charges online written by the equivalent of FurryCat44 and WMDMaster4 seriously? Only if they have no lives. Do I believe accusations that show host "A" is a child predator because he hangs around with young kids according to one anonymous poster? No. I believe they have spent too much time with MSNBC watching that Dateline "expose" all last week. Do I believe that show host "B" is a traitor and against our troops and the country and is an enemy of the state because he questions the veracity of the administration? Only if I'm a nutty wingnut who understands nothing about the freedom and democracy they claim to desire to export like Wal-Mart all over the world.

The only thing worse than this is if the local press there wastes time covering it.

- That's the story, indeed! I enjoyed reading your responses:

> Evidently the petty squabbles on KGO

- Indeed it's entertaining and brings ratings. I just went to the KGO archives and recorded soundclips of what some of the hosts had to say about each other.

- It certainly does. However, the KGO web site page designated for Dr. Bill looks "unfprofessional" with Karel's message board posts copied to it, and reflects poorly on the station. I wonder if KGO management will ask Dr. Bill to remove it.

= It's an entertaining story to follow. Liberal blogs will probably cover it in defense of Karel as a talented author and broadcaster and his ratings history at KFI. I doubt that conservative blogs will waste their time with this due to the amount of research they'd have to do (e.g. figuring out who Karel is, going through KGO archives, reading message boards, etc.).
