What surprises me is that all 3 stations are listed in the combined ratings rather than listing just WKIE & WDEK, which is what I expected for the ratings. I believe WKIE is carrying the bulk of the ratings since that signal has the most listeners for the Chicago books, and is 100% in the market (even if it's just a north suburban signal), while WRZA & WDEK only cover a portion of the Chicago market.
Edited by RockManAC on 06/22/05 02:57 AM.

Nine signal coverage

It appears to be a struggle for all 3 to cover the market collectively. Just WKIE misses a lot of the metro and the other 2 are "hole-fillers" but not very effectively. Try listening to any of them on a small radio in downtown Chicago.
Even on a car radio, it's only OK, which makes it hard to make them a habit.

1 year later to blip the radar, 1 PD later, 1 AM drive person later, 1 major tweak to make the station sound better, and 1 big stick to adapt their format. Remember, these numbers are before JMK flipped.

But still no web site.
______________

I'm well aware of the limitations of listening to WRZA and WKIE in downtown Chicago. WRZA is hammered the hardest because of WUSN & WILV transmitting from the John Hancock, plus DX from co-channel WHFB Benton Harbor Michigan. WKIE gets hammered by just WXRT from the John Hancock. WPWX isn't an issue as their transmitter is in Burnham. So when i go into downtown Chicago, I'll switch to WKIE just to get them in somewhat better. As for portable radios, I can imagine not being able to listen to suburban stations all that well. My CD player walkman doesn't pickup on 2nd adjacent channels very well. An example is 103.9 Crown Point, trying to listen to it in Gary, the walkman can't pick it up because of either 103.5 or 104.3 splattering on 103.9. My Emerson digital tuner radio will pick it up, only if I null out 103.5 & 104.3. It is a poor radio for DXing, and the CD walkman radio is even worse.

We'll know about Jack when the summer P1's come out since the Spring book will be mostly oldies ratings.

Right.....they bought a domain over a year ago....so technically the "have a website" as in they "own" the website.

I guess to be politically correct, it could be said that they have a website, but no content has been seen since the start of the so-called website.

It sat with stick people and truck telling everyone they were unpacking the music still...for almost a year, featuring Sky Daniels as one of these stick figures even after he had resigned from the station. A few WEEKS after he left, they finally changed it to what it is now..."Our website is coming soon, we aren't kidding this time." That was 2 months ago?
______________

Ok, for real?

Further clarification.......

Radio-Info.com is a web site. You can come here and there are a plethora of things to utilize the space.

Nine has a domain, they nor their listeners or the internet community can get any value or service out of it, after 1 year.

While they have 1 page up, is it really a web site, that is beneficial?

By now, at the least, they should be doing on "their website" what signal challenged outlets do. Stream their audio. You have your (few) listeners tuned in from the burbs to downtown, they sit in their cubicle and since they can't continue listening, you send them over to 104.3, your competition, which more than likely is the only one of the 2 frequencies that can be picked up in the downtown buildings.
______________

Technically, yes, they have a web site... Or more accurately, a web page.

But, seriously, even on a shoestring budget they could at least have someone, anyone -- the receptionist or an intern for crying out loud -- throw together a few more pages of information using any of the dozens of free HTML editors out there.

Not correct, at least by what I saw. WKIE & WDEK are listed together, and WRZA is listed separately with WZCH. WRZA is carrying the bulk of the ratings, not WKIE.

I don't know where you're looking because where I'm looking has WKIE, WDEK and WRZA listed together.

Also, WRZA and WZCH haven't been a simulcast in over a year. Plus, WZCH is now WWYW and owned by Nextmedia.

Sadly, i can't get 92.7 in westmont. (well, technically im on the darien, westmont, downers grove border). Very fuzzy. and when i get to work (argonne) i get 92.7 from the south mixed in with the 92.7 in the north.

down this way, 99.9 is better. (or out near naperville/aurora where 92.5 is the best. But 99.9 is still half way listenable.) anything south of I-88 and your in 99.9 land. (i go to ikea and still listen to 99.9 perfectly fine though.)

I'm well aware of this. However, a major industry trade that posts ratings is apparently not aware of it. In their ratings breakout, they list WRZA with WZCH, and list them higher than the line containing WKIE and WDEK. Each of them get numbers, though the latter barely. If I'm more specific, I'll be deleted, because their site posts ratings. I had assumed that this major trade was simply regurgitating the numbers as Arbitron listed them, wrong though they may be.

The trade you are refering to, is reporting it wrong.
______________
