"Nine" To Simulcast WCPT Starting Monday

I am sad and disappointed about seeing “Nine FM leaving the airwaves of Checaago. This was not an Adult Hits station. Rather, it truly did play everything. “Nine FM,” you will be missed.

I'm sad to hear this happening. A few of my co-workers like to listen to Nine FM over Z107 or X-Rock 103.9 (only stations in the primary contour can penetrate the metal shack). But this is Newsweb for you; they like brokered programming, and I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere down the line, WCPT's format goes to the FM full-time. I'll have to find something else to listen to in the car on my way to work, and while at work. :(

Personally, I would have liked to have seen them expand the dance programming to 24/7 and brought back the old Energy format full time. But I am glad to hear that at least Dance Factory will be staying. (and it might actually be a good fit with liberal talk I guess).

The guy who runs this outfit is doing it bassackwards !!!!
Since WCPT is a daytimer only, he should leave "nine fm" alone and play music during the day, and move the
Progressive Radio stuff over to the FM when the AM signs-off.

I agree... But right now, having an All Obama/Biden station on FM is probably a good ratings move. Maybe if ratings on the FM outlets goes up, Eychaner will just dump the AM signal, or flip it to something else. How about Nine AM? haha ummm... no, just kidding

As for the evening programming, is there any reason to call it Dance Factory on Nine-FM? Might as well just calling it Dance Factory Network and drop the Nine-FM moniker completely.

[addendum...] At night the trio of stations is simply known as Dance Factory FM.

You do make a valid point but, as in most things there is a simple explanation for keeping Dance Factory..$$$$$
Dance Factory is a brokered program. They run it independently and buy the time from Newsweb. Newsweb Corp. does
nothing for Dance Factory but sit back and collect the check for using their airwaves.

I'm just curious if the dance program streams? I know that 9 did, but now, with the 24 hour Progressive Talk Stream, where does that leave the dance program?

The DanceFactory on-line stream wasn't running the last I checked.

This country is running out of very unique stations nine fm in chicago gone energy dance radio in phoenix soon to be gone it really is a shame in todays market place these niche stations can't exist.

I hear now that the guy who runs this cluster of stations wants to sell off the 99.9, 92.7 and
the 92.5 frequencies. He is willing to do it at "fire-sale"prices, and will sell them individually.

A.) Where'd you hear this

and

B.) What could they do individually?

I can't answer A, but B could be easy enough. My understanding is that the owners of WKAN want to buy WKIF back. I wonder if Milner Broadcasting would be interested in buying back 99.9. If they did, then I wonder what format they'd put on the station. I don't know who else would want to be buy 99.9, unless Nextmedia wanted to buy the station, and have a station that served the entire southland. Crawford Broadcasting could be another choice, as they might want to move Rejoice to 99.9, if they had this station. As for WKIE, that's a tough one to figure out who would want WKIE. The only possible one I could think of (if they're interested) is maybe Crawford Broadcasting. They could either use that stations as a new station to serve the northern suburbs, or simulcast either Power 92, or Soul 106.3. There may be other possible owners for the FM stations on all of them. But I can definitely say that Newsweb should sell off WKIF, as it's a complete waste of a signal for CNN.

I haven't heard anything about Newsweb selling the stations, But I did find something interesting on Radio-Locator.
I found this when I typed in WCPT.

http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/info?call=WCPT&service=FM

Is this a computer glitch at Radio-Locator? Or are they planning some changes?

A glitch.

100.9 WLKI-FM n Albany, NY used to be WCPT-FM and albanysmagic.com was their web address.

When stations change call letters, radio-locator.com takes the information from the old station and imports it to the new one, wether it's right or not... not taking into account whatever 92.7 WCPT's calls or web address used to be.

I don't think Newsweb will firesale the stations. They own so many stations if they firesell anything, it lowers the value of every station left. He may actually prove progressive talk does not work on AM and FM stations.

Who will be the first station to firesale? My bet is Kovas. The food magnate paid so much, I don't think he will want to cut his price yet. He's also got other things going in radio still.
