Ninety Six One.....SOX

This is how Cumulus is now branding WSOX. Some imaging guy....same music....same station. They just droped the "point" and the "W". Haven't heard any re-cut jingles as of yet. While it shortens up the on air verbage.....what's the overall point to this? They DID add John London to middays. I wonder if he's full time or part time voice track....or if he has other duties with the cluster.

Who listens to them anyway? They even took them off at the diner I go to and put on 'The Rose', at least someone is there thats breathing.

Seems to me that if you're going to make this move, you also freshen up other things like the station voice.

I'm not sure how this improves things for this pretty bland station.

It's sad really. They had a creative guy (Dave Anthony). two music men who had lots of knowledge of the ptoduct (Dave Crockett & Greg Stucki), talented part timers and a great morning show guy (Mad Dog)...what the hell happened?

The only thing that makes any sense is it's a reaction to "92.7 K-Z-F". 96.1 S-O-X. Wonder if some early trends showed 92.7 gaining traction?

Two words: Bobby D The guy who replaced Anthony when he left for Pittsburgh. And remember under his regime, long time AC station WARM was blown up for a repeater of WINK in Harrisburg. But the station lost much of his soul when Mad Dog was relieved of his duties.

A clear example of what happens when "bean counters" not true "radio people" are calling the shots. Despite the lousy economy, some companies have weathered the storm pretty well (Saga for one comes to mind.)

It just makes them sound too damn lazy to include the point and W. At least it didn't cost them an arm and a leg to make this very crucial change, lol. What's next, more voice tracking...oh.

I don't think it has anything to do with laziness or over reacting to a 6 thousand watt class A signal. It has to do with Cumulus programming execs putting their own stamp on the format. Susquehanna created 96.1 WSOX from Oldies 96.1. The Cumulus guys...maybe Jan Jeffries...or Mike McVay wanted to create their own imaging...so we drop the point and the W. Jingles are gone. They probably want to get away from sounding like an early 70's CHR station....plus they can save the money on the jingles to help fund Lou's bonus.

well that counters Booby D's programming philosophy of ripping off 98.1 WOGL in Philly. I guess since his attempt to rip-off B101 in Philly is dashed anyway since WARM is no more. Still not sure why he has a job.

I am standing by my 92-7-K-Z-F theory. And guys at 92.7, if you're gonna have billboards that say "now playing" songs, make sure it's synced up---"Hot Blooded" on the board, Tom Petty on the radio this morning. Whoops.

The artist and title information goes from the studio Audiovault from when the song is started, through the internet to the sign company ftp site in Memphis, TN and then gets sent back up to the sign in York. The sign displays that last information sent from Memphis. Delays happen through the internet and timing is affected by when the WKZF sign gets shown, which changes depending on how many clients they are running at any given daypart. Nothing is perfect. Considering the path and variables involved, it works quite well overall.
