NJ 101.5 to air reruns overnight

From Talkers:

‘New Jersey 101.5’ Parts Ways with Overnight Host Ray Rossi.

The station will air “rewind” versions of the midday “Dennis & Judi” show and the afternoon drive “Deminski & Doyle” program. WKXW, Trenton "New Jersey 101.5" brand manager Eric Johnson says the Townsquare Media station will “continue to offer breaking news, weather, and traffic updates…each weeknight from 12:00 midnight to 5:00 am.” At one time Rossi was partnered with Craig Carton in afternoon drive in the first incarnation of “The Jersey Guys.” After Carton left to become Boomer Esiason’s partner in mornings on WFAN, New York, Rossi partnered with Casey Bartholomew. When “Deminski & Doyle” took over afternoon drive, Rossi moved to the overnight show. Johnson says, “We wish Ray all the best and thank him for his many years of service.”

Looks like a real cost cutting measure.

I like your headline better than the one from the actual article. Nothing says "F-U" to the late night audience more than running a pre-recorded program designed for a different group of listeners, completely taking away the participation aspect of talk radio. And this coming from the #1 rated station in the entire state, which has as of late taken to having sponsorships added to their traffic breaks and for their "Chime Time" during the weekend. I didn't listen at all during these hours when they let Tommy G go, and I sure as hell won't be tuning in now that they unceremoniously dumped Ray Rossi. They might as well be playing dead air during these hours - quite frankly, it's about as relevant and appealing as listening to reruns.

Rewind shows on any radio station just degrade the overall perception, listen-ability, quality and credibility of the station. NJ1015 is unique in that it's a hybrid of talk/info/news weekdays and switches to music/info on weekends. Why not air music/news/info during the overnight hours during the week? And go without jocks if money is that tight. <sarcasm

What would you prefer: A syndicated all night talk show about UFOs?

The thing about late night audiences is they miss the main drive time programs. They're either asleep or at work. This gives them the opportunity to catch up on quality programming, the shows the station builds its credibility on. The bad part about radio is that it's very temporary. Once it airs, it's done. If you missed it, too bad. This gives new life to those programs and a better alternative for late night listeners than the syndicated fare available on AM.
