What is this, the all college football channel? ;)

Just to clear up the NJN channels, they are (NTSC only)
23 WNJS Camden
50 WNJN Montclair
52 WNJT Trenton
58 WNJB New Brunswick

And also to clear it up, they all carry exactly the same programming, except for their legal ID's. There's no point in carrying more than one, since it's total duplication.

DirecTV carries the Camden feed of NJN even in the NYC DMA.

Don't they, in fact, just point the other NJN channel numbers to the feed of WNJS? So you can select channel 50 or 58 and get NJN, but it's really channel 23?

I remember reading somewhere it was because the cost of providing the signal to the Philadelphia uplink from WNJS was cheaper than providing either WNJN or WNJB to the New York uplink, so DirecTV just aliased everything to WNJS.

NJN is mapped to channel 50 on DirecTV in the NYC DMA. But when you hear the station ID at the top of the hour you hear "WNJS Camden"

I remember reading somewhere it was because the cost of providing the signal to the Philadelphia uplink from WNJS was cheaper than providing either WNJN or WNJB to the New York uplink, so DirecTV just aliased everything to WNJS.

Actually, they used to uplink both WNJS (for Phila.) and WNJN (for NYC), and it was done for over a year. When NJN had to assert must-carry, they had to indicate WNJS or WNJT for Philly DMA coverage, and WNJN or WNJB for New York DMA coverage.

When DirecTV began carrying signals from more TV markets, and must-carry was in place, they had to carry PBS stations like UNC, serving all of North Carolina. DirecTV realized some existing markets share the same state PBS, and WNJS and WNJN being both NJN, the same station, came into scrutiny. DirecTV realized there could be savings by uplinking just one and distributing it to both DMAs.

Despite coming to agreement with NJN and other state PBS stations, some state PBS signals don't get fully represented. DirecTV still doesn't provide any feed of Connecticut Public Television to Fairfield Co. CT, even though Fairfield Co. compromises 25% of CT's population. DirecTV figures those viewers should be satisfied with WNET and NJN there.

CPTV has a station in the NY DMA boundaries as well. I wonder if WHYY 12 will get southern DE coverage once DirecTV launches local channels there.

As for NJN, Echostar (Dish Network) still uplinks two channels: WNJB and WNJS. Even after TBN bought WGTW 48 and it switched to TBN programming, for quite awhile Dish and DirecTV were still carrying WGTW. Both companies have a preceding agreement to carry TBN's national feed, exempting the carriage of TBN's owned over the air stations.

I think its kinda stupid of FIOS to put WGN on Ch.8 in between local stations. It should be next to TBS and other general entertainment channels. I've seen the picture quality of the cable WGN and it looks subpar as well.
