NJ101.5 Tommy G Late Night Question

A

Guest
Last Night I was listening to Tommy G on NJ1015 and a caller said he was in his car in Baltimore Maryland and that Tommy G was coming in clear as a bell.

My question is I know AM signals can really travel when the sun goes down but is this the case also with FM signals ? Isn't Baltimore a few hundred miles from Trenton ? I also have noticed that Tommy G will also take calls from Long Island NY. Is this broad FM signal range a night time occurance on NJ1015?

I can't answer your question regarding nighttime FM signals but here in AC I get 101.5 on 97.3. Both the 101.5 and 97.3 signals are broadcasted at 50,000 watts so that may explain the Long Island to Baltimore calls. I suspect the guy in Baltimore was listening on 97.3

Speaking of Tommy G I did catch last nights show where he asked should Daddy know if their daughter's are strippers ? Tommy said he wouldn't want to know but after a few callers said strippers can make a $1000.00 or more a night he sent his own 19 year old daughter to a strip club in NJ and asked her to check it out.
She called in after leaving the club and said it was interesting but she didn't express any desire to get a job there. I do not know if it was a radio bit or reverse psychology on Tommy G's part with his daughter but it certainly kept my interest and was pretty entertaining.

More power on FM improves signal quality especially in fringe areas but it can't put the signal over the horizon.

Skeptic that I am, I suspect LI and MD callers were either (a) listening online or (b) "exaggerating" because call screeners tend to favor calls from unusual locations or further away.

I also wonder if the girl was really his daughter and/or if she really went to a strip club? Good bit but this is show biz.

Weren't there good DX conditions a few nights ago? Or does that tend to only work one way (ie: easy to get MD signals in NJ but not so the other way)

Could it be possible that the caller from Baltimore was listening via the internet?

There is an area north of Baltimore, especially in the Havre de Grace area, where 97.3 routinely comes in. Not well, but listenable in a car. It's mostly due to the substantial water path across the Delaware and Chesapeake bays.

In Baltimore it was more likely due to ducting.

Depends on which way the ducting is favoring... There are not often nights in october where DX is possible on FM, however this could have been an exception.

I've gotten NJ101.5 here in Port Washington Long Island in a car before. However, I'd say that it is quite fady reception, and unless you have a nice DX setup such as an APS13 or something simular, WKXW is most likely not to come in on Long Island. ON this part of Long Island, I'd think that WKXW is closer then WPDH, therefor WKXW would be more likely to come in especially if you are facing south and going closer twoard NYC.
