Earlier today during the Big Joe Henry show, the station went off the air anyone know what happened?

it wasnt on 97.3 eitherit started around 10:30, big joe went to start the promos and nothing would play, so he had to go grab a cdi got out of the car to go into a store, when i got back in they were doing traffic via phone. that cut out about half way through around 10:40 and the station was off until 11:15

Here's what happened ....A company came in to clean the carpets and another one to clean air conditioning ducts. They decided to turn off a bunch of circuit breakers to turn off the air conditioning systems. They turned off many breakers that killed power to the rack room, so all of the variousservers, processing, STLs, ISDN, etc went on backup UPS power. Soon - UPSes all went dead as the batteries ran down ... so things fell apart fast. The UPSes are only meant to bridge the gap between a power failure, and thegenerator coming on line ... not meant to run for hours.duhhhh

sounds like someone won't be cleaning ACs there any time again soon

I live 2.5 miles from the tower, and we haven't had a thunderstorm in weeks, so it couldn't be lightning. Maybe someone should label the breakers better. Next time, they should clean the AC at 3 in the morning.

Be thankful, Tom, that those morons don't run an airline. Reminds me of the old story about the Army base computer going down every night. They couldn't figure out what the problem was, so the guy in charge of it stayed the night to see what was happening. When the computers went down, he heard the hum of the floor buffer. The janitor had plugged his floor buffer into the same power as the computers and it caused the crashes. It was quickly fixed by telling the janitor to not do that and putting locking covers on the power outlets. The computer guy couldn't figure out how to tell his boss what the problem was. So he said only that it was a "buffer problem".An old one, but a good one nonetheless.Bill

This reminds me of when 1150 Am in Boston was simulcasting another area station and a cleaning cvrew came in to clean up the transmtiter building. They noticed a tuner on the desk or whatever and figured that's what was feeding speakers, they didn't like the country music so they flipped the dial to 107.3(WAAF).. and thought all was ok.Apparently, that was the monitor feeding the simulcast audio to the 1150AM transmitter... woops

Well, Ok.. I admit I was wrong;) Your brain begins to get fuzzy when you hafta get up at 430am and be in the studio by 5:15am

Tell me about it - the fuzziness of the brain. I sometimes get up early to get down to the supermarket to see my friend who works the overnight shift before he goes home at 7. That means getting up at 5AM, showered, shaved, eat, and out of the house by 6. Like the other day I was talking with the friend and someone interrupted me and my friend said to me after the other person was done talking "So, Marc what were you saying?" And I was like "I don't know. My brain isn't function this early".
