NJN on DirecTV

I have DirecTV with the NYC local channels. Last night I was watching NJN on DirecTV channel 50. At the top of the hour they gave the station ID as "WNJS-Camden". I was wondering why, from a logistical standpoint, DirecTV would be broadcasting WNJS-23 and not WNJN-50 from Montclair. Where is their headend for receiving the NYC local channels? Do they do it that way because WNJS-23 is provided for the Philly local channels, that way they only have to receive one NJN?

Except for Top Of Hour, all of NJN's programming is identical. Even the digital ID's on the individual channels are NJN-1, NJN-2, etc.

NJN chooses to feed WNJS to DirecTV because it's a shorter hop from Camden to their Philly headend than for WNJN to the New York headend.

Are the Philly and NYC headends located in each city proper? I checked the coverage maps for WNJS and WNJN on the FCC website and just by looking at the map the WNJS trasmitter looks much farther from Philly than the WNJN transmitter is from NYC. WNJS's transmitter is way out near Hammonton, NJ.

It's ironic that they call it a "network" when it's
really just one television station with four UHF
transmitters.

If they're squirting the NJN signal to the geosync birds
that means that space aliens will be able to receive it.
I wonder what they will think after seeing Kent Manahan
in 1973 and then seeing her on the tube 32 years later.
This violates all laws of broadcast employment!!! :)

IIRC, the DirecTV headend for Philly is on the Jersey side of the river. I could be wrong, however.

Per the last information I have, the NYC facility is at 32 Avenue of the Americas and the Philly is at 2400 Market Street. NYC has all those pesky tall buildings though.... :)
