NJ's WVRM, Inc. is finally dead

The long and storied history of WVRM, Inc. is about to come to an end. Beginning with 89.3 WVRM in Hazlet, NJ going on the air in 1979, through numerous format and call letter changes, including the station's then-Program Director Sal Anthony (RIP) going rogue and setting up a pirate station "Oldies 104.7", unauthorized moves of the station's studio and transmitter which resulted in fines from the FCC, and many reports of the station operating at much higher power levels than the 10 watts it was licensed with.

Ultimately 89.3 lost its license and the owners set up a new station, WPDI, first on 104.7 and then later on 103.9, with the Radio Asia format attempting to target the Oak Tree Road area but unable to do so due to 103.9 WFAS-FM moving to the NYC area and becoming WNBM, and later a Spanish LPFM station coming on the air on 103.9 in New Brunswick. Ultimately WPDI went dark, with Radio Asia remaining in exile on 103.3 WPRB-HD2 in Princeton and AM 1310 WXMC in Parsippany-Troy Hills.

Now, as of July 28th, 2015, the FCC has accepted for filing an assignment of license to transfer ownership of WPDI from WVRM, Inc. to Cantico Nuevo Ministry, Inc, which currently operates its Spanish Christian format on 1440 WNYG Medford, NY, 740 WNYH Huntington, NY, 1530 WJDM Elizabeth, NJ, 101.5 W268AN Plainview, NY, and 106.3 W292DV New York, NY. InsideRadio reports that WPDI was sold for $130,000.
