New Orleans Numbers

WQUE - In its normal number range.
WYLD-FM - In its normal number range.
WNOE - Finally surpassed WWL-AM. NEEDS some competition.
WWL-AM - Nice little gain but still down from what it normally is at.
WLMG - Almost up a whole share, but sitting at its normal spring numbers.
KMEZ - At its highest ratings so far within the last year.
WTKL - In its normal number range.
WEZB - Fluctuation always happens at this station, numbers have reached the 5's, but hasn't seen them in the last year or so.
WKBU - Everyone is surprised with their numbers, but I think its just a jump because of it being a newer station. I say by the time the book comes out it will be in the upper 2 to lower 3.
WYLD-AM - Gospel is on an uprise again in the city
WRNO - On a downward spiral, I think this is where the new "Jack" format will appear.
WDVW - The Diva is growing on people and actually being put down in diaries.
The Praise Combo - Surprisingly it has stayed steady.
KKND - Staleness at its best, someone needs to make a change here.
KNOU - Slowly falling back to where it was origionally when it first signed on as U104.5
WTIX-AM - The Big 690 doing better than some FM stations in New Orleans, doesn't surprise me
KSTE - Could this station be the one for "Jack", I doubt it, but it could happen due to no one being named PD.
______________

If the new "Jack" station is called Jack, it won't be a Clear Channel station. They may present a like format, but they're not going to pay for the rights to use the Jack name.
______________

A Surprise?????

What do you mean a surprise...hello....93.7 is in the format crapper(by the way, nice job Mike...a 2.6 to a 1.9...your bosses must be so proud.)I am wondering...what spin will you put on this trend, Mike? And great website idea of pasting "advertiser" logos on the homepage...that always makes ME want to listen to a radio station. At least link the things to the actual websites. I know it is a little work, but from what I hear, you definitely have the time.

FYI, these numbers do NOT include the flip to Red @ 93.7. Next batch of trends should.

The numbers do show Rock 93.7 was bottoming out.

It looks like Diva 92.3 is performing very well this trend. But at the same time it must be siphoning some listeners away from WEZB, WQUE and KSTE. All three stations did slip and one has to wonder if WDVW is affecting them in more ways than one.

Either that or the listener apathy was starting to show as they did nothing to or for the station cause they knew they were killing it...

My only thing is the numbers from listeners not wanting active rock or are the stations just that bad?

Re: NOLA and BR Numbers

New Orleans

Q93 (-) This one is gonna stay number one no matter what Urban seems to jump alot though..

FM 98 WYLD (--) Same..Perinial number 2 same on the numbers

101.1 WNOE (-) Too much real country? normal fluctuations

The Big 870 (+) Slight gain..could a steady crew be helping?

Magic 101.9 (++) Not the big fall gain... but listeners looking around?

102.9, Old School & Today's R&B (+) Some listners trying here instead of YLD

Kool 95.7 (-) Normal movement for this one

B97 (-) Could it be leveling off from the debut (espcially turning some off by the little extra urban)

Bayou 105.3 (++) Could this be what NOLA wanted in a rock station?

Amen 940 (+) Can Jesus be praising them every book?

99.5 WRNO (-) The KBU sting gettting them

Diva 92.3 (+) I still can't see how this one gains with the Disco.. the rest yeah but I figured they would have killed the bee-gees by now

Praise 94.9 (x) Normal.. I think Gospel would work in NOLA but not like it has in the rest of the south... But it's surprising how YLD am is doing better than an FM...

106.7 the End (x) Agree with post above..Kind of stale... been aproaching some of the more hardcore Alternative lately.. I think though people are more for mainstream new rock however...

Hot 104.5 (+) Surprise for a station on auto pilot to actually gain but is no where near their former numbers

WTIX 690 (+) better Conservatives rule? plus good baseball coverage

104.1 KISS-FM (-) No PD, Figure q93 staffer MDing this ...Ok will we see a flip?

Talk Radio 1350 (+) See WTIX... minus sports

Sports Radio 1280 (-) How many wanted to hear how bad the hornets sucked? apparently not too many...

1230 WBOK (+) slight gain but loss from last year

Sunny 106.1 (-) Rimshot that don't advertise..hum wonder what Citadel will do?

94.3 'TIX-FM (-) Praying that TKL is killed in favor of Jack?

1060 WLNO (+) Are people starting to find, there is a 50kw religous b'caster in town?

Baton Rouge

Q106dot5 (++) Flip flop of listeners between here and Heaven aparently

Heaven AM 1460 (-) see Q106.5

Max 94.1 (+) What is up with the rollercoaster here? one time up one time down.. where are the listeners going?

96.1 the River (-) Normal flip flop of listners

1150 WJBO (-) Citadel starting to woo listeners away from the power house?

102.5 WFMF (x) Pop consistancy.. Great formula IMO

Country Legends 107.3 (-) Can the retreads start to get old? Or has WYNK finally lured with yesterday and today? Guaranty, please see WSM or KWKH for formula

New Country 100.7 (x) and people called for it's death... Proves chase's idea can work...But chase couldn't do it..

B103 (+) the normal movement but can Citadel have second thoughts with just a retool?

104.1 KISS-FM (x) Finally promoting BR a hair does help (with a good signal)

Rock 93.7 (now Red @ 93.7) (--) Apathy started to set in knowing death soon...But last days were best days (and actually the last days would have been the aim they should have taken all along)... I wanna see how red does... Classic hits would have taken from a few stations but the wanna be jack is taken those listeners and shooing them away (I know it did me)

104 the X (-) Inconsistancy... Now worse...it wants to be full alt rocker and play rock like on 93.7..numbers will go up for being only game in town... But is listener apathy the reason why new rock sucks in BR (considering it's a college town and all)

Diva 92.3 (+) See opinion for nola.. unless the Diva nola flips channels, Why kill another station in BR for this?

Hot 107.9 (-)In the words of snoop dogg "Drop it like it's hot":) substandard to 104.1s signal..... america's last hot format I think is starting to see it's days slowly number...

1300 WIBR (+) I found some of JBO's listeners:)

92.7 the Bridge (-) Don't hear enough to pass judgement, but syndicated music probably do this one better

1210 the Score (+) They wanna hear their sports in BR though

Q93 (x) Alternative to Max 94.1 (even though signal not too good)...always will be in BR book...

FM 98 WYLD (+) normal movement like q93

The Big 870 (+) more talk listeners in BR..oops forgot NOLA legislators in the capital right now:)

Talk Radio 1380 (+) so-so for fully automated... Basically stuff that doesn't air on the bigger boys

1550 WPFC (+)Don't know this one at all

Kool 95.7 (x) Br trying to get it's oldies fix

99.9 KTDY (x) Blip on the screen cause of listeners trying something else than 96.1 or 103.3 (even though signal is spotty)

Might've been a sign that active rock listeners were going to the X.

then I must have been an exception to the rule.... The last few days as Rock 93.7 they actually got rid of some of the extreme rock for later at night and played more of a real hard rock format (mixing new and classic rock)in the daypart that people were starting to dig.. Usually when the format is being flushed, the true format comes out of the PD/MD sometimes and surpise..people actually dig it...

104 the X is pure Alt. rocker.... I think they will get listeners from 93.7 but not the numbers as before as they will be too turned off by the mix....

Re: NOLA and BR Numbers

Concerning WJBO and WIBR:

Until 1300 can put together a lineup that actually has something from top to bottom that station will never do better than where it is right now. Morning show's getting nothing. That leads into Moon, who's doing nothing major. That leads into Condon, and by that point, you're competing against 1210 rather than 1150, and trying to fight over the sports audience in BR is fighting over a very small pie. So by the time you get to your ace in the hole - Ed Buggs - you've had nothing but lousy lead in. And trying to cross-promote in a lineup that not pulling in anything to begin with...well, it's just not pretty.

If Buggs' syndicated TV show takes off and he leaves 1300, watch out, there could be a station in need of a flippin'.

Re: NOLA and BR Numbers

> Concerning WJBO and WIBR:

IMO, WIBR should have stayed sports. They are pulling about the same number. I'd rather be the #1 sports station in town with that number than the #2 talker. I really think IBR has backed themselves in a corner with the all local lineup. CC took 1380, made it talk also, and put the other national shows that IBR might have been able to get on there.

If you flip them, where do you go? Air America and liberal talk? Most people here are conservative, but when you aren't getting an audience, maybe the smaller liberal numbers can band together to give you a 2-3 number.
______________

My Bad

Sorry guys....I forgot that they waited to flip the format at the END of the first month of the Spring Book. I was thinking the trend was for the entire month, like MOST radio stations. It is not often that a company flips a format "AFTER" the start of the Spring book. As far as the X seeing a rise in ratings, I don't think it will happen. Most of the people that I know have switched over to the Bayou 105.3...I know I have.

Apparantly, liberal talk was tried before in B.R. (and I think it was on WIBR, this is before my time in the Red Stick) and it flopped.

Times though have changed, but I don't know if the market would go with it.

If WIBR flipped, I think the only option they would have left is go back to sports.
