NO ATLANTA SUBCHANNELS ON DIRECT TV....

Simply put, Why? (Yeah, it might be a dumb question) but, I've had Direct TV for years and I have always wondered why I don't have access to channels like:

WSB 2.2 - RTN
WGTV 8.2 PBS Kids, 8.3 PBS Knowledge
WXIA 11.2 WX Plus, 11.3 Universal Sports

Any thoughts? Thanks. :)

It's my understanding that you have to upgrade to the HD package. I've often wondered that myself, since I have Choice Extra. But, I have no DVR and no need of HD since I'm still using a 14 year old 19inch GE as my main TV.

They are not required to. They are only required to put the main channels on. To get the subchannels, I bought a $15 antenna from Radio Shack. It also comes in handy during rain fades.

I just jumped on the DirecTV bandwagon, but im not sure that was the best thing to do. So it rained last week Tuesday over night and all my sets said "Searcing For Signal." No storms, just a brief shower. How often does this happen here in Atlanta considering this wasn't a thunderstorm?

Same thing happened to me. Just call Direct TV customer service. MAKE THEM have the guy come out and do the slight positioning/adjustments to the actual dish (usually free, but ask them or if not free, just "demand-or-else" them)

Almost always when they first install the dish co-ordinancce may be off by just a hair. But, ever since they adjusted it for us, armagedon could be going on outside and I'm still safe inside watching "True Blood" in HD. Direct TV rocks!

Also, if your line-up contains both HD channels and the NON-HD channels,
then go into your "favorites" set-up menu and create a special list of just your NON-HD
channels (only) and use that list as a back up. So, if the weather is REALLY crazy outside, you can go to your "back-up/favorites" list and those hardly ever go out during the rain.

For some reason, rain-fade will always kill your HD channels first. But the NON-HD ones hold out longer. You can even title this list as your, "AUX LIST" or as I like to call both my favorites list, "MAIN LIST" (for HD's) and "STORM LIST" (for Non-HD's) ;D

I used to be on Dish and even a sprinkle would take it down. On Direct Tv, it takes a pretty bad storm to knock out the signal, plus Direct give you about 15 channels that Dish doesn't have.

Yes an antenna will help with the digital signals, but even that isn't perfect. I'm in east Dekalb and a good wind affects the signal (especially on 2.2 for some reason).
