No Audio on 88.1 WYGG FM in Asbury

Since Thurs. or Friday The transmitter for WYGG in Asbury Park has been Running with no audio and noticeable background Hum like something not grounded. There is Audio on their Web Site. Tried calling the Station this evening but no Answer. Wonder If they lost their Phone lines to their transmitter on the Roof of 601 Bangs Ave. Their Studios are on Asbury Ave. Is Running a unmodulated Carrier with no Station Id's still an FCC Violation.

They use a wireless link and a couple of Barix boxes between ASbury Ave and Bangs Ave.

First of all..silence on that station is a blessing. Second while they are in violation, there is no chance that a crippled FCC will do anything. Considering our pirate radio problem, this station is a non-issue.

The listeners of WYGG think it the best thing on the air. When it is the only thing on the air that broadcasts in your language it is the number one station on the dial.

The station actually has a pretty good signal when they decide to increase the gain on the board. I did a remote there last month and it sounded great.

The audio is back up but most of the time you have to turn your radio up to hear it. Way undermodulated and noticeable hum from the transmitter. Don't they have any processing to keep the level up. Sounds like they are only kicking 10 to 20%. I'm not a regular listener but tune in just to see if their audio has improved.

Here is the Story guys… I was away out in Ohio on Business friday when they took a Power hit.(possibly lightning)
it took out the STL toasted the Barix box at the transmitter site. it also took out the backup Cable modem,Router, and Network switch.
The Phone line for the Remote control is Via the Cable modem Box. I lost both my audio feeds and Both sources for remotely controlling the transmitter.
I had a USB Flash drive with some Music and legal ID in On a backup PC at the transmitter site. But without remote control I could not switch.. BTW I have the Only Key to the BOX with the PC and audio Switch and it was in OHIO… So Lets cut out the Crap about the Station running Illegal. It was an act Of nature. and when I returned back on Monday. The station went back on the air sounding Like Robot. Till I got the new Barix box and Cable modem on Tuesday.. Its normal now. the Cable box is having Issues and drops out every once in a while.
I am waiting for the New STL units to arrive. and Remote control is working again…
I am running an OLD Optimod…… If anyone wants to DONATE a NEW OPTIMOD I will except it.. If Not kill the comments

Ralph…. Ive had a very long and Hard day today.

Hey ralphie, you must have control of your transmitter all the time. Running days of dead air and no id's is indeed a violation. Perhaps the licensee needs to have control and access to his transmitter? The key being in Ohio doesn't cut it.

Well these things happen when you handle 10+ stations.

Is the old optimod the reason the level is still so low and the hum is present or is it the fault of the studio operators not running the board level high enough? I noticed the web stream is not very loud either. I guess with a Non com. you have to work with whatever the budget will allow or in this case whatever equipment you can get donated. When the station moved into the Asbury Ave location they had an open house and I toured the facility. This was before the power increase and the transmitter moving to Bangs ave. I saw an optimod and a Ramsey transmitter. Is that the same combo thats being used at bangs or is there a new transmitter there? Just curious.

"Accept" - I think that was the word you were looking for :)

You think Multicultural would hire you an assistant or something so you aren't stretched so thin....

A Ramsey transmitter? I don't ever remember a Ramsey at the station they had an Energy-Onix transmitter during the tour.

It an Armstrong transmitter with an Energy-Onix amplifier Running 242 watts TPO with an ERP of 920 Watts. Found theissue with the Audio drop outs. should Be ok now..and YES its a very Old optimod. The AGC on it is non-existant. Looking for a Donation of a newer Optimod. The Only Time WYGG sounded really good was when I put in an optimod 8200 to test Before I moved it to WIBG-fm down in Ocean City.

The operators are apparently running a little more gain on the board as it was louder the other day.
Good luck with your search for an newer Optimod. WIBG sounds great. Any truth to the rumor that Rick has it and his AM Station listed with a Broker.
