No big HD2 rollout for Tampa?

A lot of markets have seen multi-casts light up. CC is streaming some interesting formats. So far, no sign of a Tampa roll out? Are we that podunk?

On another note, congrats to CC for being a pioneer in this new technology. Once again, CBS and Cox are far behind.

CBS radio is rolling out HD radio in select markets http://www.cbsradio.com/releases/view_release.php?date=/060119

Aswell as a few other companies. I now live in Philly, so we got the CC stations, soon will have 3 greater media stations, and soon will have 2 CBS stations all multi-casting.

As for why Tampa doesn't have it yet. CC atleast seems to be doing it by market size, with the top 10 markets havning it now (except Atlanta #10 market)is without, and Boston (#11 market) does have it)'

CBS looks to have it scattered about more. In anycase, Tampa will probably be in the next 10 markets CC brings HD radio too, and by the end of the year, Tampa will probably have it both for CC and CBS radio (I don't know if anyone else such as cox plans on doing this anytime soon)

CC was NOT a pioneer in multicasting, they had to be drawn into it. You can thank your tax money and NPR for multicasting. It was called the tomorrow radio project. WUSF has been HD and multicasting for over a year now.

CC is the one far behind in the Tampa market as far as HD Radio is concerned. Both CBS and Cox have 3 HD stations on air, CC has 1 AM and NO FM's.

Tampa HD stations
970 CC
89.7 USF
94.1 CBS
94.9 Cox
97.1 Cox
99.5 CBS
101.5 Cox
104.7 CBS

So what would we hear on any HD2 channels in Tampa Bay?

Listeners need to be aware that it's not as simple as flipping a switch. It involves new antennas, and therefore sometimes even improvements to tower sites, or outright tower relocations.<P ID="signature">______________

Re: We'll hit

Not only transmitter site work, but you have to have separate studio for each HD channel, maybe new digital STL's, etc etc. Mucho dinero....

Re: We'll hit

No seperate studios needed in most cases. We're already using digital STL's and the like. It does require a complete main studio rebuild which is what we begin on 98ROCK this month. We as a company have put together 75 HD channels(up and running now) with a VERY WIDE array of programming that will be on the HD side channels. We have taken the lead on this as Infinity and others are working with us to get our programming for thier stations as well. There are actually some stations running some of the programming from our HD hcannels on thier main carrier now because they like the WIDE(900 songs plus) variety. There is A LOT more going into this than any of you really know.

Sorry Rig... I respect ya but it's too little too late. You lost me and it's gonna be a long time before the average AM/FM listener has an HD radio receiver.
