NO BUZZ IN 2008? 94.7 KTOK?

Sources say that 94.7 The Buzz is going all voicetracked after the new year...which is kind of strange since they just hired Mark Shannon at KTOK, and since the ratings at Buzz arent that great and they arent making money..it all adds up..look for KTOK-FM Newstalk 94.7 in Jan or Feb, just waitm when it airs, I said, I TOLD U SO!!!

My question is, would a NEWSTALK FM/or FM talker work in this market? I don't see why not.

If they treat it and feed it finacially like an FM station then YES.. It will be a great option for them. They'll get much more mileage out of putting KTOK on FM than screwing with that 1210 move-in that seems to infinently stalled. Nationwide stations are moving their working talk formats to FM and winning. Let's face it folks. It's 2007.. People like to listen to something without static in their office cubicals and homes. Noise is a HUGE problem for AM and hurts listenership. Stepping out and moving the KTOK product to FM would be one of the smartest things CC could do in OKC IMHO.

The Buzz is toast thanks to mulitple blunders including, but not limited to Corbin Pierce. That motley fool did more to ruin the Buzz than any one else could. It wasn't a great property to begin with but he made damn sure it'll never amount to crap. Kick the cord on the life support and let's move on with it.

;)

Hey the Buzz is practically already voicetracked 24-7. Since Crystal was let go last month.

Nope! But I bet there's several of the current 94.7 listenership that does!

:D

Yeah, the high # of head shop ads (Drew's etc) tend to support that point of contention.

I would be happy if CC bothered to put KTOK on an HD2.

Not that they would (silly arbitron reporting rules, etc)....but hypothetically (assuming khbz becomes ktok-fm) could they break the simulcast for 2 hours at night. Air Loveline on the FM, and Dave Ramsey on the AM?

That's hillarious.... cuz i'm reading this "live", while setting in the buzz studio "live", while doing my airshift "live".. thats bad ass that message boards know more about my own airshift than i do.... i had no idea technology had advanced so quickly this year....

i guess that proves that the ones who chime in on this board, really know absolutely nothing about whom they talk shit about.

Okay for 4 hours a day the Promotion's Director is live on the Buzz. The other 20 hours is syndicated or tracked.

So sad but so true....

Without more of a commitment than that, KHBZ can't do much better anytime soon.

Of course, you fail to mention that you are the only "live" person at the station who has a "live" airshift. The station is a sinking ship. Jump before you drown. Now is not the time to wave the company flag.

Has anyone else noticed that ALL the humans that work at KHBZ also do something else in the building or are piped in from elsewhere, where they have another gig too? Jay's a promotions guy. J-Rod is on another morning show. They have a girl that VTs from Tulsa. Basically what I'm saying is that EVERYONE that works on KHBZ isn't risking loosing a job by being on KHBZ when they blow it up someday. Smart idea on management's part considering that CC probably won't put enough $$$$ into it to do it right anyway.

The Buzz has something up their sleeve starting tomorrow. It may be a last ditch effort, but it just might work. I just hope they don't let us down. Content counts and when you play the same to 40 songs over and over and the same artists over and over and your morning show is a syndicated and most of your jocks are voice tracking, you just aren't going to get anywhere.

My opinion my not count for anything, but I'd like to hear some real new rock.
Artists that the Katt can't/won't play. Artists like Atomic Bitchwax, Bad Wizard, Clutch, Big Elf, Black Stone Cherry, Blood of the Sun, Che, Corrosion of Conformity, Drowning Pool (old stuff), Dead Meadow, Drive-By-Truckers, Five Horse Johnson, Hermano, Mondo Generator, Pelican, Priestess, Rise Against, Suplecs, Truckfighters, and the REAL rock that most Oklahomans don't even know about yet.

But don't take my word for it, I'm just some random chick that listens to the radio.

I might be in the minority here, but I don't see alt. rock being the answer in OKC. In fact, it's a format that's dying and has been on the decline for the past decade - right after 95X was launched on the wave of success the Eagle was having in Dallas.

The majority of people want to hear familiar music and playing stuff that's great to a few won't bring in a large audience or revenue (and we all know that's the bottom line). Even the KATT is hanging onto Classic Rock and 80's Rock to maintain its position of prominence because they'd die if they had to rely on AOR or Modern Rock.

As a listener, I don’t care much about the business end of radio (until my favorite station switches formats) I just want to hear good music. I understand that Clear Channel beleives that people love monotony when it comes to music, but it could only help to play new music that people haven’t heard and let the listeners decide. I’m not suggesting they do this all the time, but they should have an hour a day where they introduce something new and let the listeners email or text about that new song they heard and thought “Wow! What was THAT?”

Seems to me that at this point, the Buzz has nothing to lose. From what I’ve read on this forum they’re at the low end of the ratings anyway, so why not?

Bottom line, listeners like their meat and potatoes, when you don't give it to them, they don't want it.

What does this mean?

Give the people what they want. Radio terms. They don't want anything they aren't familiar with.

Although I'll agree staying with what the public wants is a good rule of thumb, being staying in the rut radio currently dwells in is what's ruining the industry. Well, along with clueless consultants and corporate assclowns that have never been on the air for a day in their lives.
