What is it that donors are being asked to give their money? Is "KLLS" a for profit entity or a not for profit? Is there an actual incorporated business here?
KLLS no longer exists. When the station was sold and license transferred to Carlos Lopez, the call letters were changed to KHTW, and it was rebranded as "Houston's Tejani Party Station." The only problem I have with this is the station never aired Tejano music, and since the grade A or B coutours never reached Houston, how could it be "Houston's Tejano Party Station? Also, when the license was transferred to the new owner, the station was dark, and had been for quite some time. When Lopez purchased the station, he also kept the station dark, and it remained so until the last few months when it came back to life with the MusicRadio1300 format.
I have issues with private, supposedly for profit businesses asking for "donations". As far as I can tell, the 1300 station in Lumberton is not a charity or a non-comm operation.
Correct. And any donations would not be directed to "1300 station in Lumberton." If the fundraising advertisements are claiming anything otherwise, they are playing fast and loose with the truth.
Why not raise capital by offering equity in the station for those who invest?
Because the individual apparently raising capital isn't the owner of the station, and therefore can't offer equity is something he no longer owns.

Which proves my point. As I mentioned above, a silent station doesn't serve the public interest, and following the conclusion of KSET, the station was perpetually silent. For years.
You obviously have no clue as to what you're talking about. The station was not silent for years.. I filed STAs when it had to go off the air.. And I have people who listened to the station when it was on..

You're starting to get annoying... Must be a friend of J**

We've seen the same "begging for money" on U.S. commercial shortwave stations, particularly WRMI and WBCQ, who appear to have inadequate revenue to cover operating expenses.

If I understand tax law correctly, for-profit companies have to treat donations as income for tax purposes.

Not trying to rip on your effort to reacquire the 1300 station (I wish you well) but I think there may be a sustainability problem here.
I'm fighting this on my own and the lawyer is not going to be cheap... It's not operating the station that's the problem, it's the lawyer fee..
Hope that settles your concerns

Which validates my point, which is the station was off the air for years. When it was sold to Carlos Lopez, it was off the air, and he mae no effort until the last few months to change that. These are the facts. I'm sorry you have a problem recognizing them.
And I have people who listened to the station when it was on..
However, for the majority of the time you operated the station, it was not.

So are you. Especially when you solicit funds for a station you don't even own. This would be like me operating a fundraiser to "Save KRBE" when I don't have an ownrship interest in it. Playing fast and loose with the truth is unethical.

OK, guys, take this outside. It's a legal matter and won't be resolved here. Thread closed.
