No Christmas bounce for Oldies...?

While they did go up a bit....it looks like Oldies did not get the bounce from Christmas that they did last year.

Fall 2006 they were in first place.

Fall 2007 they are in fourth place.

in case you haven't noticed, there's a recession going on, gas prices out of control and the real estate market has crashed. that explains why there were fewer people in the holly jolly mood driving around from mall to mall listening to christmas music last qtr...

Thats a rather shallow analysis..

Well, first of all we're not technically in a recession.

And while gas prices and mortgages are having trouble....someone might make the case that people would need/want Christmas Cheer (Music) more than ever! ;-)

In 2006, they didnt start Christmas music until probably late November. This year, they started mid November (Monday the 12th, the week before Thanksgiving). So, for those of us who did NOT want to listen to Christmas music, WODS lost us 2 weeks earlier than usual.

WODS also had to compete this year with WROR which started playing Christmas music the same day. And speaking of WROR, they did jump up a bit from last year as well....even with Loren and Wally and Tom Doyle subtly complaining about having to play Christmas music in mid November.

And I've mentioned this several times within a couple of other posts: I still have not gone back fulltime (or even parttime) to either WROR or Oldies since the change back to regular programming although I do have the home radio on Oldies tonight for the first time in a long time. But, in the car, to work, heading home, during the day, it's still mostly Mike-FM (who's ratings dropped even WITH me listening ;D ) and, for some reason, I've even been listening to Michael Graham on 96-9, WTKK in the morning. Not because I like talk radio...I just think he's hilarious. :D

ODS started the all Christmas WAY TOO EARLY!

The Friday after Thanksgiving should be the earliest. IMHO I would wait until Dec 24th at around 2pm.
