no classic rock

It does, but programmers would rather cater to urban music & spanish language programming.

The market is 40% Hispanic and African-American. Generally those listeners have zero interest in Classic Rock.

WHTQ may have done OK in-demo, but it was the lowest rated FMin the market with a full-coverage signal.

Isn't WMMO nothing more than a light Classic Rock with low-key presentation and a few re-currents mixed in.

Agree its not a classic rock station, however its the closest Orlando has.

It sucks but more and more cities are moving away from the Classic Rock format.

The cities that do are favoring a harder-edged 80's version of classic rock. Usually playing an nauseating mix of Billy Squire, Van Halen, Ted Nugent mixed with overplayed tracks by Led Zepplin, "Tom Sawyer" by Rush and more burnt to crisp tracks by "The Eagles". Stations by the name of "The Brew" and some of Cox's "Eagle" stations come to mind. How many times should I hear "Stroke" mixed with "Hot for the Teacher" in a day.

No more are the days of Classic Rockers playing "The Beatles" and a heavy mix of 60's and 70's rock that is easy on the ears.

Get a good antenna and try to pull in WHOG 95.7 from Daytona.

Get a better antenna and try to pull in WIND-FM 95.5 in Ocala.

Last week, I noticed 96.5-HD2 wasn't Classic Rock anymore.
And also, 101.1-HD2 no longer has "X".
But we still have O-Rock 105.9-HD2.

JRR is adding more classics to their playlist (big mistake, but whatever). I'm hearing 3'ish classic rock tracks an hour?

Would have been nice to keep 96 Rock on HD2 as well as Channel X. Thank God for O-Rock, although the playlist sounds awfully repetitive. Anyone updating/refreshing this?

The 96 Rock HD2 / online-only gig didn't last but for a few weeks after the DBO switched over, it seems. The WHTQ calls were quickly picked up by a non-Cox-owned station up North this past January.

Let's see, out of 15 stations in the general Orlando area, as seen below, 6 are either Urban or Spanish. that is 40% and therefore not superserved. Also, keep in mind that the Hip-Hop format is probably a majority white youth audience but for this purpose I gave you the edge. However, I do agree that it is shameful that you do not have a New Rocker as well as a Classic Rocker in addition to JRR.

WWKA 92.3 FM Country
WCFB 94.5 FM Urban Contemporary
WPYO 95.3 FM Hip Hop
WDBO 96.5 FM News/Talk
WPCV 97.5 FM Country
WNUE 98.1 FM Spanish
WMMO 98.9 FM Adult Hits
WRUM 100.3 FM Spanish
WJRR 101.1 FM Rock
WJHM 101.9 FM Urban Contemporary
WHKQ 103.1 FM Spanish
WTKS 104.1 FM Talk
WOMX 105.1 FM Hot AC
WOCL 105.9 FM Classic Hits
WXXL 106.7 FM Top-40

Classic rock looks for 25-54 males. 104.1 cuts into that audience, then factor in the ethnic composition of the market. Add the fact that it's sort of a waning format anyway, now that a lot of AC stations overlap it, and it just isn't a need for the market.

As is typical for Cox they were serving up the old time Classic Rock Artists/Hits until just about 90 Days before the flip to news/Talk when they FINALLY brought their playlist into the 90's...at time they were nearly a replica of WHOG which had been adding 90's for quite some time when WHTQ updated.Smashing Pumpkins,Nirvana & Bush were replacing Pink Floyd,Lynyrd Skynyrd & The Allman Brothers etc.Almost a 1-2 Punch Happened WHOG went back to playing the Older Classics while WHTQ became WDBO and went News/Talk.It would be an ideal time for someone to come along with a new Alt Rocker and play only Classic Alt Rockers from the 90's and leave out the "Oldies" JRR seems to be delving into.

On what station (AM or FM) do you see as the best fit for an updated classic rock format which you believe will out perform said station's existing format?

Is 104.1 underperforming with its current format to the point classic rock will perform better? Why would a WFLF simulcast not work better in order to make the 540 brand more competive with WDBO-FM? Do you see any other possible options for classic rock?
