No Colts coverage on 1570AM

For some reason we did NOT get to hear the Colts game on 1570 AM yesterday down here in New Albany. I had to listen to the stupid boring tv announcers. I wish I had the Sirius package now as terrestrial radio sucks wind here. If it is not UlaSmell or Ripp you can forget it. No other teams exist in the Lousyville metro area. The Reds, Colts and Hoosiers are all on dumpy AM stations with poor reception and no signal strength.

Obviously whoever runs 1570 does not listen to it since they never got the feed yesterday and don't tell me it's because ESPN carried the game on radio. Many markets have ESPN/Westwood coverage and still get their team's announcers as well on another station. It's no wonder why people like me turn to satellite radio for sports coverage. I will have the Sirius package next season for sure.

Of course it is probably all automated and since nobody was at the station they couldn't fix the feed.

I just learned this stupid station does not have rights to carry the AFC championship or the Super Bowl. What a crock of crap!!! When WHAS had the Colts a few years ago they carried the Colts feed of both games. I guess this finalizes my decision to get the best of Sirius with my XM now. Radio is Lousyville is pathetic.

the rules are the only the Hometeam markets can get the Home broadcasts of the Conference and Super Bowl games, the radio network affiliates have to then have to Take the Westwood one feed unless someone is already the westwood one affiliate in the market and im sure WKRD is the Louisville area westwood one Affilliate thus 1570 in New ALbany which is the colts radio network Affilliate for Louisville couldnt carry the Westwood one feed. Because up here in Anderson since we luckly dont have a westwood one affilliate in the Anderson area got to carry the Westwood one feed on the colts radio network station here. but at least Anderson is close enough we get the Indianapolis stations to catch the Colts Radio broadcast

Bob Lamey is simply not available to affiliated stations for the championship games and the super bowl. Its a little publicized fact. Indeed, Wil Hampton (host of the Colts call-in show) did not know this when asked after the first Jets game.

I'm not sure if Sirius even would have had him. Westwood One is supposed to have the exclusive radio rights to the conference championship games and the super bowl.

(Yeah, what Mike wrote while I was typing this)

Pt Sirius does get the Home team feeds for the Conference Title game and the Super bowl but Sirius is the only one other than WEPN (NYJ), WFNI/WLHK (Colts), WWL (Saints), KFAN/KQQL (Vikings) that could carry the home team broadcasts for the Game yesterday and for the Super bowl WWL and WFNI/WLHK and Sirius will be the only ones with the Colts and Saints Home team broadcasts. Everyone else Either Saints or Colts Radio network or that markets Westwood one Affilliate will carry the SUper bowl. the Same thing is True in Baseball for the LCS and WOrld Series. im not sure when it comes tot he NBA or NHL on the Conference title series and Its championship finals series

National Broadcast is MUCH better than listening to Lamey.

PTBoardOp94 is right. We are a Colts affiliate and the last game on the Colts Radio Network was the Baltimore game. We are getting the rest of the games from Westwood One (the AFC championship game, the NFC championship game and the Super Bowl. It looks like everyone has abandoned the Starguide receivers. Westwood One uses the MAX (Media Access Exchange) receiver, which we got from Westwood One.

Agreed ... Kevin Harlan is darn good at football. No one but a die-hard Colts fan would choose Lamey over Harlan or most anyone else doing national games.

I was confused as to why WHAS carried the Colts in the first place, and why did they discontinue the coverage? I actually started listening to some games when they were on HAS. I stopped when they became difficult to find.

I'd say its part of the evolution of the News/Talk format. It used to be that a News/Talk station was run like the local newspaper. A little hard news (politics, crime, and the like), some soft feature stories (the 112th birthday of a local woman), and often fairly in-depth sports.

Two phenomenon have occurred in the News/Talk arena since then: A number of talk program syndicators have begun offering or even requiring stations to take weekend best of shows. Also, stations that have dropped sports coverage have been successful with it. In all liklihood, not paying rights fees is important here.
