NO DOUBT- SETTLE DOWN

Its their first new single in 9 years. Any guesses on how this performs at CHR? Its been all over the radio in LA this week, but this market isn't a good barometer since No Doubt is a local band, and their hits have always performed well here.

The question really should be "Is No Doubt still a CHR band or have they been relegated to Hot AC?". I only hear "Sweet Escape" played on HAC, never as a CHR recurrent anymore.

BTW, I first heard this today on KIIS and wasn't all that impressed.

I've now heard it on KIIS, KAMP, KBIG, KYSR and KROQ- but I agree, I'm not impressed. Its not that good of a song. Maybe hardcore No Doubt fans like it, though.

I caught the tale end of it the other day, so I can't give it a fair judgement yet. Given the reactions here, it may get a high amount of buzz, but fall off quickly. Kinda like Madonna with "Give Me All Your Luvin".

Sweet Escape is Gwen Stefani solo song. No Doubt has nothing to do with it. I hear Dont Speak on a few CHR stations mostly during the daytime like KIIS in LA. But the new song Im not crazy about it.

Yeah, I know it was a solo hit but since ND hasn’t had a hit in a long time it’s the best I could do to try to gauge how the new song would fare on CHR. Is Gwen solo really that different than No Doubt as a group?

Gwen's solo music has been a lot more pop than No Doubt music. "Hollaback Girl" even got play on urban radio, something that never happened with ND.

And "Luxurious" which Im not crazy about got played on Urban radio too. Although "Hollerback Girl" was rated higher. Gwen also teamed up with Eve for "Let Me Blow Your Mind" another hit on Urban radio. It is a major difference. Im actually glad some CHR's are giving it a chance. Hopefully their next release will be better.

I actually heard it. it's like trying to bring back the "hey baby" No Doubt type sound. I always thought Gwen Stefani was best on her own for her most recent projects. I'm not so sure how well this song will do, but it is noticeable that pop rock artists have been topping off the chr charts lately. But then again, those same pop rock artists have watered down their sound big time. What could this mean?

I bet it's perfect for Cumulus CHR's. Maybe it will come on after Matchbox 20. :D

By the way, yes, I did "throw that bate out to see if it would get eaten." ;D
I've actually heard it all over the place. I don't like the song, but I think it will be pretty successful on radio.

I actually hated this song quite a bit, but bump it on a stereo with bass and MAN! It sounds pretty dope. Weak song with a powerful beat.

Yeah, the song can be terrible, but as long as someone presses the "Start" button on a synthesizer, it's "dope" ::)

Do you even like music? (As in not just the drum machine?)

Not crazy about this song. When I first heard it I thought it was Gwen's solo hit "Rich Girl." It sounds almost identical to me.

I agree and I’m still having difficulty with the distinction that Gwen’s stuff sounds more pop than No Doubt. They all sound the same to me.

Of course. This is why I not only like and play a variety of music of different styles, but I also prefer formats that are as close to variety as possible. I love many different aspects of music and have a true passion for music - way more so than the average person (including radio dj's, programmers, etc.) could ever understand. That's part of the reason why I have the mental ability to break down songs and find the good elements in songs I don't even like (and vice versa) instead of just either liking or disliking a song based on personal biases or just because like most regular people do. Unfortunately, most people in the industry (radio and music production) tend to be regular people. They cannot see outside of their little box of the typical norm for each genre and style of music. I also cannot understand how people could simply like ONE style of music and be 100% biased towards that one sound all the time (which is why Atlanta will always puzzle me with their 56 urban stations). Actually, I can understand it, but... I couldn't do it.

Some folks love the new Gwen Stefani track. Some hate it. Those musically black & white - strictly love or hate type people are too simple minded for me. I go deeper than that. I may not like the overall production of the track. However, there are many elements and details within the production of the song that I DO like. So if I must tolerate it, I will focus on those good elements whenever it plays and play it on the appropriate type of system that enhances those good elements. ;)

If the song has too many poorly done or bad elements in the song to the point where cannot enjoy it regardless of how hard I try, then I'll find anything else I can that I feel is better to listen to, even if it's just silence.

I actually don't mind this song at all. I've heard it several times and enjoy it - primarily because of the beat/sound and not because of the lyrics.

Someone said they think Gwen's solo stuff sounds the same as No Doubt. I disagree. In my opinion, Gwen's solos have more of a rhythmic beat and sound less rock-ish than No Doubt.
