NO DOUBT- SETTLE DOWN

Lyrically, this is the second No Doubt song to feature the word "hella" in the chorus (after "Hella Good").

Gwen should be considered a traitor to her native SoCal for using this NorCal "word" in choruses of two of her songs. That "word" is hella annoying.

All my San Francisco and San Jose friends say "hella" all the time. Been doing so for a few years now. It's sort of like how people in Atlanta use "shawty" and "crunk," which became much more popular than "hella."

I actually don't mind this song at all. I've heard it several times and enjoy it - primarily because of the beat/sound and not because of the lyrics.

Someone said they think Gwen's solo stuff sounds the same as No Doubt. I disagree. In my opinion, Gwen's solos have more of a rhythmic beat and sound less rock-ish than No Doubt.

A.J., I think what people are really saying is that it's not Gwen who sounds like No Doubt anymore, but No Doubt who have changed their sound to sound like Gwen's solo work. If I didn't know better I would have thought "Settle Down" was a new solo track from Gwen. As I said earlier, it sounds to me virtually identical to "Rich Girl" - in fact, it sounds SO similar I'm surprised she didn't enlist Eve as a guest star to rap-sing about Harajuku girls. Now if you compare Gwen's solo work to anything from No Doubt from the beginning up through "It's My Life," there certainly is a difference. I loved "Tragic Kingdom" and was excited when I heard No Doubt were finally releasing something new, and wound up disappointed when what I heard sounded (to me) like a second-rate Gwen solo track. Given that the song is hovering in the mid-50s on Billboard's Hot 100 currently (although it is still gaining at radio), it seems I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Let's face it, Gwen is the star, so I think it kind of makes sense to premiere a new No Doubt album with a song that is somewhat reminiscent of her solo work. Hopefully it doesn't turn off longtime No Doubt fans (from before Gwen went solo) from sampling the album. Of course, this is just one song. Perhaps when the album comes out, we'll all be proven wrong and there will be more rock sounds on there.

In my opinion, it sounds more like "Hey Baby" than it does to "Rich Girl". I can hear a resemblance to "Rich Girl", but to me it sounds a lot more like "Hey Baby", which was obviously released before Gwen's solo career took off.

I literally started laughing out loud when I read this. :D

Yeah - I guess this song is not going to be a very popular one. I like it, but I like Gwen's solo stuff better.

And "Luxurious" which Im not crazy about got played on Urban radio too. Although "Hollerback Girl" was rated higher. Gwen also teamed up with Eve for "Let Me Blow Your Mind" another hit on Urban radio. It is a major difference. Im actually glad some CHR's are giving it a chance. Hopefully their next release will be better.
@wdb2003 I know this irrelevant to the original point of this topic but on top of that KPWR gave Gwen Stefani's "Holla Back Girl" and "Rich Girl" a decent amount of airplay back in 2005. I never listened to No Doubt's new record to judge how it sounds.
