No HD-2 formats for Fresno?

Interesting that neither CC nor CBS announced any formats for any HD-2 signals in Fresno. I believe all of these retrospective Companies stations in Fresno are HD equipped or will soon be, yes?
______________

IIRC, the industry consortium to push HD agreed only to immediately roll out their second streams in the top 50 markets.

I would bet that they want to see how that fares before expanding to their smaller markets.

(Personally, I have doubts that the "agreement" not to duplicate each other's HD-2 formats will last very long.)
______________

Their business model can't support all original HD2
The irony is, the only way to compete creatively
with XM/Sirius is to roll out national formats.

It is a trojan horse basically at this time. Like
drafting a 2nd stringer from a small college into
the NFL. A lot of wishing & hoping

You do not recall correctly.

The initial list of markets covered by the HD Alliance includes several smaller markets, such as Springfield MA. And there are plenty of top 50 markets that aren't included, such as Cleveland.

It's not supposed to. The idea is to get a critical mass of programming on the air to get past the chicken-and-egg dilemma, giving listeners a reason to want to buy radios and manufacturers a reason to want to make radios in greater quantities (which will bring the price down). There's already nothing binding about the format choices (they're being very careful not to do anything that would run afoul of antitrust laws), and the working assumption is that the Alliance will be defunct within a couple of years and the competition will begin in earnest.

There's nothing all parties involved would like more than for the medium to take off even faster than that.
______________

Thanks for defuzzing my memory, Scott.

I'd be interested to know your take on why markets were included/excluded.
______________

A lot of it simply had to do with where each of the groups in the Alliance had already deployed FM HD. Hartford already has most of the Clear Channel and CBS stations on with HD, so it made the list despite being a relatively small market (ditto for adjacent Springfield, Mass.)

There are other markets where, for whatever reason, fewer stations have HD on the air - Pittsburgh comes to mind - and so they're not on the Alliance list.

Why are certain markets getting HD before others? Lots of factors - who was next on the corporate list to get new antennas and transmitters, the availability of space for HD antennas and transmitters at tower sites, the economic vitality of the market, even, in the case of Detroit's rapid rollout, a desire to showcase the technology to automakers.
______________

Ok, after re-reading your line 6 times, I *think* I see what you're saying.

Except for one problem:

Fresno is on flat land...the valley floor. For example: KSKS comes in clear in vehicles from just outside Bakersfield all the way into Stockton, before bleed-in fron KQJK/Roseville.

Nate, ever been to Fresno?

My humble opinion: Don't talk about what you don't know about and try to sound like you do know. Did that make any sense?
