No Hot AC for Los Angeles

That's according to the R&R playlist database of Hot AC stations. Looks like KYSR and KBIG both were dropped from the Hot AC panel.

The Record Parrots are not happy about this. Expect them to whistle at Johni Kaye to nuke the oldies on KRTH for their interests shortly:)<P ID="signature">______________

That was bound to happen anyway. Both stations were also dropped from the Billboard Radio Monitor reporting panels in 2005 because both stations scaled back on currents to focus more on recurrents.

You can be Hot AC and not be current intensive. These stations choose to do what they do because their companies feel it is in their best interest. KBIG's 25-54 numbers are solid - so no one can argue with them.

With KYSR, time will tell whether the move to a larger dose of recurrents will work. Honestly, there are not a lot of currents that are compelling - and the more current-based Hot AC's around the country are failing.

Who cares about credibility. Ratings and revenue are all that count.

Do you seriously believe that the record companies care? Its all about Mediabase & BDS spins...not "reporting" status.

Are you serious about KRTH dropping oldies?

Actually, KBIG has been off their list of reporters for several months now...

By definition, to be a Hot AC you MUST be currents intensive. If you're not playing currents then in reality all you are is another form of an AC or a JACK (adult hits) station... This is why KBIG was removed back a few months ago... their only current at the time of removal was Madonna's "Hung Up". KBIG hasn't had much credibility for a very long time in this market... maybe one of these days, the bean counters at CC will actually try to find this station a format... KBIG sounds just as "all over the place" as they did a year ago at this time... and their lukewarm ratings continue to reflect this. They could do so much better than their so-called "solid" 25-54 numbers, but they choose to be happy with a station that is no ones "first choice" as far as listening habits go... I'm smack in the middle of that demo and I HATE to listen to this station. B-O-R-I-N-G!!!!

As for KYSR, the larger dose of recurrents hasn't been working AT ALL as they fell to 24th in the market 12+ this past quarter, which I believe is their lowest ranking ever... This past week CC has FINALLY decided to stop trying to run this station into the ground and has added current tracks by Natasha Bedingfield, Bon Jovi, Train, Daniel Powter, The Fray and Fall Out Boy... You know how freaking stale this station was sounding??? James Blunt, Rob Thomas and the rest all recurrents and gold!!! Until this past week, I was on a "recurrent boycott" of them, meaning the only songs I would listen to were the aforemented Blunt and Thomas tunes... if they were playing ANYTHING else, the dial went elsewhere... Perhaps with this action, R&R will add them back to the panel.

I definitely take issue with what you say about the lack of compelling currents being out there... there's all kinds of GREAT HAC music out now... all of the above mentioned stuff is great as is the new Nickelback album, Kelly Clarkson, Staind, Coldplay, the brand new Jewel song and new artists like KT Tunstall, Missy Higgins and Anna Nalick to name a few... the list is almost endless...
